Story, as told by Ralph Ritter, Rad's nephew, said that the location of the bar was remodeled into the Liberty Theater; and when the theater was torn down, the workers found a bottle of whiskey that that had been stuck in the wall during the construction; the bottle had Uncle Rad Gallier's label on it. They gave Tack the bottle. He said it was around for quite a number of years, but does not know what eventually happened to it.

Perhaps street numbering changed over the years, but the location of the bar was where the Liberty Theater was. The Liberty Theater was at 547 Pearl, and this is verified both from the 1949 City Directory, as well as my own memory of the location of the Liberty Theater. The town has torn down many of the structures and built their "new and better" in their place, but it was indeed on the east side of Pearl between the streets Fannin and Bowie.

2050 Magnolia, Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas The house has long since been gone. The bustling activity of the town has long since moved on to newer parts of town. But this house knew its share of sadness and tragedy for this family. It was in this house that my great grandmother died, being cared for during her fatal bout with the pandemic flu of 1918, as did George Rowley, her son in law only days earlier. And it was this house the following year that another son in law, Rad Gallier had left to run an errand for Mary and was killed in a fatal car accident. (See Radford Gallier death notes) |

_____
On the south side of Liberty avenue at Magnolia there is a little fruit stand. Back of ths fruit stand is a tree and considerable shrubbery. A two-story house is beside the fruit stand and about five yards back of it. This combination Sunday resulted in a tragedy that cost the life of Radford W. Gallier, 43 years old, of the Jefferson Standard Life Insurance company and one of the best known residents of this county.
Mrs. R.C. Miller, driving her limousine, crashed into Gallier's car at this corner, knocked him from his machine and then her heavy machine passed over his body, crushing his legs.
Going at Good Speed
Mr. Gallier had turned into Magnolia from Laurel avenue and was going north. Mrs. Miller was on LIberty giong west. She could not see Gallier's car nor could he see hers, the store, shrubbery and house completely cutting off the view. Both cars seemed to be going at a lively speed.
The accident occurred at 10:00 o'clock in the morning. The injured man was rushed to Hotel Dieu and died at 2:00 o'clock.
Mrs. Miller lives at 2341 Broadway and is the wife of R.C. Miller of the Josey-Miller grain company.
Early Settlers
Mr. Gallir's parents were early settlers to this section. His mother, Mrs. Joseph Gallier, died here only two weeks ago. He had lived here all his lief. For a number of years Mr. Gallier was engaged in rice farming when he was proprietor of the Cabinet bar in Pearl street for several years. When he retired from the liquor business he engaged in the insurance company.
Mr. Gallier is survived by his widow Mrs. Esther Gallier, 1701 [sic 1071) Park street. His father, Joseph Gallier of Meeker, Texas; three brothers, Leonard G. Gallier of Meeker; L.A. Gallier of (No)me, and Jake Gallier of Fannett and (???) his sisters, Mrs. Lou Green of Dore-(??)e, La; and Mrs. Mary Peveto of (Ru)sk, Texas.

Death Roll
Gallier's Funeral Monday
Funeral services for Radford W. Gallier, who died Sunday from the effects of an automobile accident, were held from Broussards, Taylor & Divant's parlors at 2:00 o'clock Monday afternoon. Rev. George B. Norton of Port Arthur officiated and burial followed in Magnolia.
__________
He and Esther "Tack" were visiting with Esther's sister Mary at her home at 2050 Magnolia avenue. Family story says that he had gone for a loaf of bread for Mary when he was hit and killed by a woman driver.
note: Mrs. Miller was Byrdie G. Miller, wife of Rudolph C. Miller. She was 36 years old. There is a library in Beaumont at Dowlen Park, corner of Dowlen and Delaware, named after her husband, the R.C. Miller Memorial Library.
The library's website states:
"The R.C. Miller Memorial Library was a gift to the people of Beaumont from R.C. Miller. His wish was 'to provide an adequate library which can be used to the greatest possible advantage for the people of this area.'"
