  Notes	DIED JACKSON - At his residence at Smiths Point, Chambers county, Texas, June 1, 1877, John Jackson, in his 58th year of his age. His remains were deposited in the family grounds at Double Bayou on the 15th.The generation of men who formed the earliest pioneers of Texas and by whose deeds the glory of our Empire State was gained, are rapidly passing away, and but a few years more will ??????before the last of these heroes will rest in the bosom of the State to whose interests the best years of their manhood and the unwavering devotion of their lives were given.We have to record the death of another of these; Captain John Jackson, of Chambers county; on the 15th; at the age of Fifty seven years. In early childhood he came to the State and settled in that portion of Liberty county which was afterwards formed in the county of Chambers. There he married an estimable lady and brought up a large family of children, most of whom have already reached the estate of man and women, and are still residing at or near the old homestead. Mr. Jackson's death was preceded a few years by that of his wife. He was a good man and a useful citizen and was honored and esteemed by all who knew him. Let us cherish his memory as one of the fathers of Texas and see to emulate his virtures as a man and a citizen. - jeanplumm rootsweb database The Chambers book has a picture of a portrait of John on page 259.
