Deed from Sarah Compton and et al to John Jett and Joseph Reid recorded 20 September 1843
This Indenture made this 19th day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fourty three between Sarah Compton, Anthony Ricketts and Henrietta,his wife, Zachariah Compton and Lenia, his wife, Thomas Finnell and Nancy his wife,Richard Compton and Dorcas,his wife, George Compton and Amelia,his wife, Elisha Compton and Hulda Ann, his wife and Thomas Compton of the county of Coshocton state of Ohio of the one part and John Jett and Joseph Reid of the county of Rappahannock and state of Virginia of the second part. Witnesseth that the parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred and thirty three dollars and 3~ cents to them in hand paid by the said John Jett and Joseph Reid at and before the ensealing and delivery of these present the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged they the said Sarah Compton, Anthony Ricketts and Henrietta,his wife, Zachariah Compton and Lenia, his wife, Thomas Finnell and Nancy, his wife, Richard Compton and Dorcas,his wife, George Compton and Amelia,his wife, John D. Compton, Elisha Compton and Hulda Ann his wife, and Thomas Compton have granted bargained and sold and by them present do grant bargain and sell unto the said John Jett and Joseph Reid a certain tract or parcel of land situated lying and being in the county of Rappahannock and state of Virginia and bounds as follows to wit: Beginning at a small red oak Saplin corner to Richard Duke thence South 30 degrees East 48 poles to the River, then down the river South 83 degrees East 22 poles to a chestnut oak in Thornton's back line. Thence with thr said line North 15 ½ degrees East 132 poles to a Red bush in said line thence north 75 degrees west 143 poles to a chestnut thence South 12 degrees west 120 poles to a red oak, thence to the beginning containing one hundred acres together with all and singular the appurtenances to the same belinging or in any wise appertaining to have and to hold the same with the appurtenances thereto belonging unto the said John Jett and Joseph Reid and their heirs and assigns forever and the said named parties do for themselves their heirs exart and admors covenant in a agreement by these present that they will warrant and forever defend the bill to the said land unto the said John Jett and Joseph Reid and their heirs and assigns against the claims or claim of them the first named parties living in Coshocton County of Ohio and their heirs and against the claim or claims of all persons claiming by form or under them. In witness whereof the said first named parties have herewith set their hands and seals this day and year first above written, the foregoing includes the right of the widow and eight of the heirs of George Compton (deceased) late proprietor of said land to contain one hundred acres ,be the same more or less.

We Matthew Ferguson and Wesley Graves - Justices of the Peace in the county aforsaid in the state of Ohio do hereby certify that Sarah Compton, Anthony Ricketts, Zachariah Compton, Thomas Finnell, Richard Compton, George Compton, John D. Compton, Elisha Compton and Thomas Compton parties to a certain deed bearing date the 19th day of June 1843 in accordanece personally appeared before us in our County aforsiad and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed and deserved us to certify the said acknowledgement to the clerk of the county of Rappahannock in the state of Virginia in order that the said deed may be recorded. Given under our hands and seal this 19th day of June 1843.

We Matthew Ferguson and Wesley Graves acting Justices of the Peace in the county and state aforesaid do here by certify that Henrietta Ricketts, wife of Anthony Ricketts, Lenia Compton, wife of Zachariah Compton, Nancy Finnell, wife of Thomas Finnell, Dorcas Compton, blife of Richard Compton, Amelia Compton, wife of George Gompton, Hulda Ann Compton,wife of Elisha Compton parties to a certain deed bearing date on the 19th day of June 1843 and herunto annaced personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and being examined by us privetly and apart from their husbans and having the deed aforsiad fully explained to them they the sAid Henrietta Ricketts, Lenia Compton, Nancy Finnell, Dorcas Compton, Amelia Compton and Hulda Ann Compton acknowledgeed the same to be their act and deed and declared that they had willingly signed, sealed and delivered the same and that they wished not to relent it. Given under our had and seals this 19th day of June 1843.
