- Note by ~ss: There's two William Stones born in about 1785.
One is son of William Stone and married Nancy Denny,
and one is son of Enoch and Nancy who married Mary Gordon.
Dates of birth, marriages, and death are attributed to both. Even some researchers have them as the same William Stone with two wives.
More research is needed.
-------------

-----------------------------------
William Stone, the son of William Stone [sic] (SEE NOTES OF HIS BROTHER JAMES), was born in Surry County, North Carolina. William was enumerated on the 1800 federal census of North Carolina as having been born between 1774 and 1784. He was later married on 12 June 1809 in Surry County to a woman named Nancy Denny. 296 Nancy, who was also a native of Surry County, North Carolina, was the daughter of Azariah Denny and Sally Wise Felton, and the sister of the Sarah Denny who married William Stone?s brother, James.
Although I have not been able to substantiate it, a number of researchers claim that William eventually moved to Ohio, where he is said to have died. The only census I have been able to find William on was the 1810 census of Surry County, North Carolina, however.
NOTE: The offspring listed below as (female) was abstracted from available pre-1850 census records. This is believed to be one of William and Nancy?s children, but has yet to be positively identified. The 1810 census of Surry County, North Carolina shows males 001 - females 101. Although census records indicate that William and Nancy had at least one child, it is believed that they probably had additional children. The 1810 census of Surry County, North Carolina shows males 001 - females 101.
