- Went to Mahaska Co, Iowa in 1846, married Sorena Cameron, daughter of Rev J.M. Cameron. Grandmother Cameron was the daughter of John Orandoff, of Springfield, Ill. Cameron owned a large mill and farm on the Sangamon River in Illinois before moving to Iowa, and while in Illinois, Abraham Lincoln lived with them, finishing his school days there, did chores, split rails for his board. Lincoln was engaged to mother's cousin, Ann Rutledge, who died. In 1849 Baxter migrated to California. In 1850 he took up a gravel mine on the American River but it played out. He died in San Jose, California. His children are listed in "The Bonham Family" p 46.
