- The tale of two Catos. Charles Cato West born abt. 1764 is, I think, the brother of Littleberry West of the family of Wm and Keziah. He married Sarah Withers in 1785 in Faquier County, Va. I think he stayed around there for the rest of his long life. Do you remember responding to a query in May about him? This helps us account for the double life of Cato. The one who went to Natchez is Cato Thomas whose father is William G. West as the letter and lawsuit says. I never found the Will of William West born in 1688-1769 or a will of Thomas West who the letter said gave his money to his nieces and nephews and was Cato Thomas' guardian.

From Barbara Garrison: Cato's son CHARLES C. WEST who was born 1798, and died 1866. m. Charlotte Neilly
WEST, CHARLES, DR.
From the newspaper "The Weekly Standard" of Port Gibson, Miss. in the issue dated February 24, 1866 is found the following notice. The Woodville Republican, of the 27th ult., contains an obituary of the late Charles Cato West, of Wilkinson County, who died in New Orleans while on a visit to that city, January 9th, 1866. The deceased was born of an ancient English Family in Fauquier County, Va., on the 3rd of August, 1789. His father, Dr. Charles West, removed to Mississippi Territory in 1791 and was the first practicing physician in the Natchez District. In company with him came his brother, Mr. Cato West. (Author note: this was a much lengthier, very interesting and informative notice).
How many Charles Cato Wests are in the Natchez area at the same time? Littleberry West is supposed to have a son named Charles Cato West by second wife Eleanor Langton Carter, while brother Col. Cato West, had a son named Charles Cato West who was the son of first wife Miss Winn. This Charles Cato West was born in Fauquier, Virginia on Aug. 3rd, 1789 and died in New Orleans on Jan 9th, 1866 according to material from the Mississippi archives. He married Janet Scott Chinn in Harrison County, Kentucky on Sept. 2nd, 1810. Was this the same person who died above, and is said to be a son of Dr. Charles West? Col. Cato or Mr. Cato West is not the same person in the obituary above as his brother Dr. Charles West.
Did William West 1735 migrate separately with son Littleberry West, when they went to Natchez, Lousiana District in the late 1700's?
