William Albert Howard M.D. was born at Willow Grove, Clay county on November 23, 1886. He graduated from the Medical Department of the University of Tennessee in 1909 and took post-graduate work at Charity Hospital, New Orleans and Illinois Post-Graduate College.
He married Miss Elise Epperson of Algood in 1912.
Dr Howard enlisted in the Medical Service in the World War, serving from January 1918 to July 1919 with the rank of Captain, and was in France 12 months.
In 1920 he built the present Cookeville Hospital, which he operated for 5 years as Howard Hospital, later selling it to the City of Cookeville. Dr Howard has associated with him his nephew, Dr H H Taylor, in a general practice of medicine and surgery.
