- Born the 7th child of Thomas W. Woolverton and Margarette Wood. Enlisted in Confederate Army 01 Nov 1862 and assigned to Co I, 48th (Voorheis') TN Infantry Regiment. From July 1863 to Sept. 1863 served as a nurse, attached to Jackson's Cavalry Division Hospital in Lauderdale, MS. The 48th Inf. was in Dalton, GA by Nov. 1863 (Battle of Chickamauga?), Mobile January 1864, back to GA in May 1864 (Battles of New Hope, Kennesaw, Atlanta?) and with Hood's Army returning to TN in late 1864. Captured at Battle of Nashville on 16 Dec 1864 and imprisoned at Camp Douglas in Chicago, IL where he remained until his release 15 May 1865. By 1870 had moved to Texas where he married Sarah (Sue) Malissa Gwinn in February of that year. They had five children prior to her death 09 Dec 1881. Married Hulda Swift Doss Goad, and they had one child in 1884. Received a Confederate pension from state of TX; approved 21 mar 1908. At time of application he stated he was a resident of Anderson County, TX and was a traveling salesman. Died at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.
