- James Wesley Minner, of Port Arthur, passed away Sunday at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur.
Born in Lawton, Oklahoma, to James and Willie Minner, the family moved to Port Arthur, Texas and soon after his mother died. He was raised by his loving stepmother, Amelia Mudd Minner and lived in Port Arthur for the rest of his life.
He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1935 where he was a proud member of the Yellow Jacket Varsity football team. He earned a football scholarship to Southwestern University in Lafayette, Louisiana.
He returned to Port Arthur to work for Gulf States Utilities. He retired after 40 years as a supervisor. He was an active member of St. Catherine's Church and a Fourth Degree Knight's of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ella Mae Minner, and daughter, Sue Ellen Minner.
Survivors include his brother-in-law, nieces; nephew; cousins and godchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial held at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Port Arthur with Reverend Kevin Badeaux officiating. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
