- Rev. Charles Grymes, an Anglican minister in England was caught up in the emerging conflicts associated with the Puritans. Evidently he had to flee to the new colony of Virginia.
Charles Grymes came to VA by 1644. He was rector of New Poquoson Parish (later named Charles Parish in York Co.) Later he was rector of Purton/Popular Spring Church, Petsworth Parish, Gloucester Co., VA. Charles owned large tracks on land on the Rappahannock River in Lancaster Co., VA.
About 1657, Rev. Charles Grymes married Katherine, the widow of William Debnam. They were the parents of one son, Col. John Grymes, I.
