Spell Cemetery (Rosedale/Voth Cemetery) Caswell Street, Rosedale-Voth, Jefferson County, Texas The land on which this graveyard is located was designated a family cemetery in 1873 by the Marble Family. The earliest known burial is that of Martha Marble (d 1864), whose husband John S. Marble was also buried here in 1873. Their daughter and son-in-law, Noley and David E. Spell, owned the land until 1924, when it was officially designated a cemetery in county deed records. Notable local citizens interred here include Sam H. Tevis and Daniel Comstock. A cemetery association, organized in 1983 by Spell family descendant, maintains the historic graveyard. Victoria Memorial Square Cemetery Listing of Interred at Victoria Square - shows "Parson Lovelady" and "Mrs Lovelady." Considering that our James Lovelady was a Chrisitan preacher in Victoria and surrounding areas, it seems a safe assumption that this is our James and Nancy Linville Lovelady. Ye Olde Rumney Marsh Burial Ground Cemetery notes and/or description: This land first belonged to Samuel Cole and was known as Cole Farm. In 1654 the land was sold to William Hasey. Members of the Hasey family are buried on this site. The family sold its interest in the land to Joshua Cheever Esq. in 1740. By agreement between the town and Joshua Cheever, dated March 7, 1743, the town voted to accept this land for a Burying Place. Joshua Cheevers will permanently deeded this site to the town for a Burial Ground on December 8, 1751. The first recorded burial on this site occurred on February 6, 1693 with the interment of Mary Smith, wife of John Smith an early tenant farmer of Winnisimmet. This burial ground was placed on the National Register of Historical Places February 2004.
