    Glen Jefferson Parmley Sr.
    Glen Jefferson Parmley Sr.. devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away November 12, 2009, knowing he was deeply and sincerely loved. Glen was born July 22, 1915, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to I.D. and Sallie Parmley. During his younger years, he loved spending time on the family farm in Central Heights and playing neighborhood football with the Houston Cherryhurst Park team (which was sponsored by the late Karl Young). Upon his graduation from San Jacinto High School in 1933, Glen attended his beloved University of Texas. He was a member of the Urban Sturbans, the 1935 UT intramural basketball championship team, and was the individual free-throw champion of that same year. Glen was a member of the Greatest Generation, having served during World War II in the India-Burma-China Theater with the 124th Cavalry. After his return home from the war he began a 38-year career with Gulf Oil Corporation, retiring as the manager of the Right of Way and Claims Department. He was well-respected as an honest and fair businessman, whose word could be trusted. Glen was married to Martha Pope Parmley for 69 years, and together they raised four children in their home in Bellaire, Texas. His life-long favorite pastime was deep sea fishing all along the Gulf Coast with his friends and business associates. He is survived by wife, Martha Pope Parmley; sister, Ouida Townsen; children, Jean Parmley McKeown, Diane Parmley Feagin, Glen J. Parmley Jr., Patricia Parmley Cortez; sons and daughter-in law, Butch McKeown, Art Cortez, Sarah Parmley; nephews, Norman O.Townsen Jr. and Walter Buddy Townsen; grandchildren, Michelle Almaraz , Debbie Alford, Robb McKeown, Rusty Feagin, Kyle Feagin, Chris Cortez, Amanda Cortez , Amanda Moore and Jackson Parmley; great-grandchildren, Hunter Lowney, McKenzie Almaraz, Sydney Alford, Shelby Alford, James Alford, Carly Alford, Nolan McKeown, Grant McKeown, Davis McKeown, Mia Elizondo, Olivia Feagin and Luke Moore. Throughout his life he never waivered in his love for his Nacogdoches heritage, his support of the Texas Longhorns, his gratitude to Gulf Oil Corporation and his devotion to his family. His was a life well-lived. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Rock Springs Cemetery, Nacogdoches County. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday, Nov. 21, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the Rock Springs Cemetery Perpetual Fund.
