Date: 3/29/2005, 2:53 pm In Response To: Zacariah Godfrey/Martha Mayes Godfrey (L.L. Carrington) I am the son of Williard Benjamin Mayes and the grandson of Peter Adolphus Mayes. I was born in Houston, Texas in 1966. My aunt Jack (Mabel Doyle) had the large white board of the Family Tree (the descendants of Isiah Day and Amanda Cribb) when I was a child. There are other family members who are researching the Mayes family as well. One I know of is Robert Mayes of Friendswood, Texas. I met him last year while my wife and I were visiting Houston.

Iworked as a newspaper reporter in Beaumont,Texas for four years at the Beaumont Enterprise. Chambers County and Anahuac/Double Bayou are between Beaumont and Houston. Currently, I am a Soldier in the U.S. Army, assigned to the 3rd United States Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) the Army's ceremonial unit and escort to the President of the United States. I am a staff sergant in the Public Affairs Office. I have one sister, Vanessa, who is retiring from the Army, who resides in Fredericksburg, Va., and my mother, Gwendolyn Mayes, of Houston.
