    1755, July 1 - Stated in grandfather Benjamin Martin's will: "bequeath unto my grandson Benjamin Bonham son of Nehemiah and Elizabeth Bonham that lott of land which I bought of William Winfield lying at the place called the vinyard."

    Benjamin was probably a minister, as was at least three of his sons. All were educated well by standards of the time.

    Nathan was a minister and moved to Wythe Co, Va in 1791 and married several of the Bonham family there. Among the marriages was that of Nehemiah Bonham and Isabelle Scott and Deborah and Benjamin Peck, both couples married on the same day, 5 Jn 1796. Jeremiah bonded for her.
    Smith and David left Virginia "which was becoming controlled by slaveholders and which made it difficult for a man of modest means to make a living for their growing family; so they decided to go to Ohio, which was opened up as a free State." (he Bonham Family)

    Notes:

    From 1782 until 1788 the family lived in Frederick Co, and then in Loudoun Co until 1794. Nehemiah left Fred Co in 1794 and married in Wythe Co in 1798. In 1808 moved to Blount Co, Tennessee, and living there during the War of 1812. In 1818 moved to Pike Co, MO, and then in 1834 to Grant Co, Wisconsin where he died in 1845.

    Nehemiah was called Jr. to distinguish him from his cousin, Nehemiah, who was a reverend born in 1765. Jr. was married by his cousin, the Reverend Nehemiah Bonham

    Nehemiah was a farmer and wagon maker and is buried on the Harvey Farm in Hurricane Grove, Grant County, Wisconsin. He also served as a Captain in the war of 1812.

    Nehemiah married Isabella Scott who was the daughter of James Scott, a prominent Virginia landowner of the time.

    When his father left Loudoun about 1782, moved to Tennessee, married in Greenville, TN, then moved in about 1812 to Blount Co, TN where he bought a farm on the Caney Branch near the village of Louisville. He was a Methodist minister in Blount Co, and is buried there. On Feb 21, 1866 I.E. Stone, heir to the estate, received final settlement. Seven of Benjamin's sons were ministers.

David settled in Harrison Co, and then to Tuscarawas Co where he lived until 1846. He then moved to Green Co, Indiana and is buried in the cemetery at Midland, Indiana.

    In 1846 Mr. JACKSON married Miss Martha BONHAM, a native of Pike Co., Missouri, and the daughter of Captain Francis and Mary (NEAVILL) BONHAM, who were among the prominent pioneers of Grant Co., Wis. Capt. BONHAM was one of a family of five sons and two daughters, namely, James, Joseph, Francis, Harvey, Martin, Isabella and Mahala. He was born in Rye Valley, Wythe county, Va., in 1806, and in 1818 removed to Pike county, Mo., where he served during the pioneer days as a captain of militia. Though he possessed few opportunities for a schooling, he had by extensive reading, aided by a remarkable memory, acquired a broad and useful general education. He died in Grant county in 1892, aged eighty-six years. Among the cherished heirlooms which he left to his posterity was a sword, carried by one of his ancestors, in the days of Cromwell's Roundheads, and which also did service in the American revolution. His wife as a native of Shelby Co., Ky. Their eight children, four sons and four
    daughters, were Martha (Mrs. C. M. JACKSON); Euphenia (Mrs. UTT); William; James, who died in his youth; Calvin; Carlos; Lenora (Mrs. BALDWIN, deceased), and Mary Frank (Mrs. BROOKS). Mrs. Martha (BONHAM) JACKSON, the wife of our
    subject (Christopher Jackson), died Nov. 6, 1880, aged forty-nine years.
