note: I believe that this John who was married to Mary Ann and Martha was the John who was son of Enoch and Elizabeth Margaret Williams. In 1850 he is living next door to Enoch, his brother.

    Research Notes:
I think the John (I 05040) who married Mary Ann and Martha is the child of Enoch and Elizabeth Margaret Williams rather than is found to be the first born of Abraham and Elizabeth Chaney. The John who was 1st born of Abraham and Elizabeth Chaney I believe was married to Elizabeth Horton. 1850 census shows John and Mary Ann living next door to Enoch, Jr.
However the other John (I 05003) who married Elizabeth Margaret Williams is living within three residences of Alexander, another son of Enoch Sr.

update 4/28/2015: DNA kinship to Maria Allen Shaw, 3rd-5th cousin, to me and Glen indicates John is indeed son of Abraham and Elizabeth Chaney as that calculates to 5th cousin. If he were son of Enoch Jr, kinship is quite a bit more distant. So, assuming concluding until further study that John who married Elizabeth Horton is son of Enoch Sr.

    OBIT:
Below is the biography/obituary of Andrew Jackson "Jack" Randles, the eldest son of John & Mary Gellen (daughter of Samuel & Jemina Gellen) Randles as shown on the front page of the Coshocton Tribune of November 23,1933
This newspaper also features a full length picture of Andrew Jackson "Jack" Randles, who was also the grandson of Abraham Randles (born December 25, 1792, and Roscoe pioneer). There was a covered bridge at the old "Jack" Randle place, which was later replaced by a steel & girder bridge known as the Jack Randles Bridge. Although the bridge has been gone many years, the pillars remain.

    Jack Randles, County's Oldest Resident,Dead
Veteran Farmer,Stockman Dies at Age of 97

Mr. A.J. "Jack" Randles, Coshocton Co.'s oldest resident, died at 8 p.m. Wednesday at his River Road home, south of Coshocton, following a two weeks illness with complications of diseases.

Mr. Randles, in his 97th year, had been active until summoned by death in the house he built with his own hands almost 40 years ago.

One of the pioneer residents of the county, Mr. Randles remembered the days when Coshocton was a tiny village, when the principle mode of transportation was the old Ohio canal. He helped build the Pennsylvania railroad thru this section in 1852 and often referred to the "roaring" camps of laborers that grew up over night and just as swiftly were abandoned as the ribbon of steel was laid.

    Born in Jackson Tp.

Born Jan.31st,1836, in Jackson tp.,a son of John and Mary Gellen Randles, he spent his lifetime in this community, with exception of a year in Kansas. At one time he moved from his farm to the city but returned to the soil within a few years.

He was married to Catherine Amelia Pearce on Christmas day, 1857. She died in 1913. Survivers are Mrs. Anna Kreider, Route 5, an adopted daughter: Everett Randles of the home, a son: Mrs. Hettie Eckhart, Lawton, Okla, a sister, C.N. Randles of Roscoe, a brother, and Mrs. John Mirise of Roscoe and Mrs. Charles Stipes of this city, half-sisters. He also leaves several neices and nephews.
During the Civil war Mr. Randles served with Co. G. 143rd O.V.I. He was a member of the old Pleasant Valley Methodist Protestant church.

Funeral services will be held at the late home at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in charge of Rev. E.K. Barsa, pastor of the Coshocton Methodist Protestant church. Burial will be in South Lawn cemetery.

    Name Familiar Throughout County

Jack Randles, whom few knew was christened Andrew Jackson after the famous fighting president, was perhaps better known than any other resident of Coshocton co. He was known by sight to almost every child in this vicinity, his name was familiar to others who did not enjoy a personal friendship.

Age took slight toll from this hale and hearty son of the soil. Jack Randles, until a few weeks ago, seldom neglected chores about his farm. He frequently went to the fields and worked side by side with men half his age.
A month ago, when representatives of the Coshocton Business Men's Association were distributing invitations to the Carnation day celebration held here Oct. 17, they found Mr. Randles in a field on his farm, cutting weeds with lusty strokes of a scythe. "I can't spare you gentlemen much time, I got a late start this morning" the aged man told his callers then. "You can count on me, I'll be there". And he was.

    A Lover Of Horses

Jack Randles seldom missed the Coshocton co. fair and was one of its early boosters. He was a pioneer member of the Coshocton Racing Association and formerly owned a stable of race horses which competed on even terms with other harness racers at county fairs thru-out the state.

He was known as one of the best judges of horseflesh in the United States. At the start of the Civil war he was engaged by the Union army to buy horses for the "Boys in Blue". In the spring of 1864 he enlisted in the Union forces and served until that historic struggle was ended.
The government, remembering Mr. Randles judgement of horses called on him for the same purpose during the Spanish-American war in 1898 and again in the World war.
At the close of the Civil war Jack Randles returned to Coshocton co. and resumed his life as a stock buyer, stock breeder and farmer.

Note* Jack Randles was a much loved man who supplied food for many Coshocton county homes during hard times.
