We know that Sarah Ellen and Aggy's mother Lucinda and probably their father, depending on what you surmise, were born in North Carolina not Kentucky. I notice the census' have different and sometimes incorrect informaion The best kept secret is still a secret. It makes one wonder what was there about her that it appears that neither children nor grandchildren verbally passed on or had written down her death and burial. Many of her siblings are buried in different cemeteries around there I have visited them. I have been to the Shelton Cemetery where her parents are buried. Albert lived to be quite old but apparently he left no records either so the mystery goes on, something strange here.

Hi Vonette, some of Lucinda's siblings are buried in Mt. Lebanon but I have seen postings on Ancestry etc. that they are buried in Shelton Cemetery on Shelton Cemetery Road, David and I went out there this past summer and Doug Shelton lives there on the property, he said George Washington Shelton gave that property for the cemetery, he was not exactly aware of who was there but a lot of Sheltons are buried there. Guess you and I can do more research. We also went to Petersburg church cemetery few miles out of Sebree and Joe Z Shelton and wife are buried there, I posted a pic on Tina's site. However, I don't know where everyone went on that site etc. not much response. It appears the genealogy searches has somewhat disappeared. Thanks for the query post, always open for new or corrected info. Keep in touch

I am particularly interested in Lucinda's daughter Agnes. She married my ggrandfather, Atwood Willoughby. I have no idea what happened to my ggrandmother, Atwood's first wife Mahulda "Huldy" Patterson. They had four children, three girls and a boy who apparently did not live to adulthood. They were living in Union County KY in 1880.

Regarding Lucinda's daughter Agnes.. She is in my family tree and had two children, Joseph Finley Shelton and Lula V. Shelton. These children carried the Shelton name, and I don't know who was their father. She also had a daughter, Isabelle with Atwood T. Willoughby.

Atwood T Willoughby died at Western State insane asylum
March 25 1911 and I assume is buried there. Joseph Z Shelton was Lucinda's brother, and my great, great, uncle
or foster great great grandfather as he raised my great grandfather, Winfield Scott Shelton. Winfield has a brother
Albert Shelton, that was also Lucinda's child but the father's are different from DNA tests. Lucinda's brother and sisters are buried at both Mt Labanon and the Shelton
Cemetery....her father is buried at Mt Labanon Cemetery according to his son John Shelton that wrote a handwritten genealogy of his family and I transcribed in a book. Ask me on each separate brother and sister of Lucinda's and I will furnish the date of death and where. euglenagail@aol.com

You are correct. The father's idenity is unknown and I wonder if maybe all the children had different father's.
We know Winfield Scott Shelton and Albert Shelton had
different father's as the DNA proves this....but with girls
I don't know to date how that is proved.

Winfield and Albert you say had different fathers, who was Albert's source for the test? I believe Donna
Shelton's father Johnny Shelton was the DNA source for Winfield.

My gr gr grandmother, Lucinda Shelton supposedly had an affair with General Winfield Scott (resulting in my gr grandfather Winfield Scott Shelton and others). One of Lucinda's children (from this affair?) was named Cordelia. Coincidence? I wonder. Cordelia only lived to the age of 10.

(~ss this is not likely. Winfield Scott b 1786, Lucinda b 1833. It's more likely he was referred in that time and as was the custom of many to name children after politicians and other high-profile public figures. In 1852 he was nominee for Whigs for presidential election against Franklin Pierce. If there's anything to the following comment and his daughter married an Oglesby, there was a family connection. My father passed 5 years ago. He always told me that one of General Winfield Scott's daughters married an Oglesby. I found a bird in the Texas birding book today named after him ?Scott?s Oriole?. This prompted my Internet search today. My father was Howard Scott Oglesby. His family was from Pennsylvania and we lived in Jacksonville,FL. Has anyone ever come across the Oglesby name?
