Thomas W. Abell, 94, of Springfield, formerly of Assumption and Taylorville, died at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday at Clarkston Court. Mr. Abell was born March 22, 1897, in Taylorville, the son of William Arthur and Jessie Little Abell. He was co-owner of Abell and Son Lumber Co. in Assumption, and manager of both J.H. Patterson Lumber Co. in Marengo and Springfield Lumber Co. He was a member of West Side Christian Church, Assumption Christian Church, 73-year member of Bromwell Masonic Lodge 451 AF&AM in Assumption, former member of Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Springfield, Ansar Temple Shrine and Illinois Lumber Dealers Association. He is survived by two nephews, including Preston B. Hott of Springfield. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, with the Rev. Patricia Carter officiating. Hammitt Funeral Home, Princeille, is in charge of arrangements.

Jean Abell McCoy
61, of California, formerly of Assumption, died at 1:20 a.m. Friday at her residence. She was preceded in death by a brother. Surviving are her husband, Maurice; one son, William "Bill" of Orange, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Rich (Connie) Briggs of Placentia, Calif.; two brothers, Preston Hott of Springfield and Tom Hott of Decatur; and five grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Assumption Christian Church. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery at Assumption. Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption, is in charge of arrangements.
