Susannah Johnson was not quite 15 years old when she married Wilson Turner Meador.
"During the Civil War a regiment of Yankee soldiers camped at Meadorville, and the officers stayed in our home. They had smallpox and gave it to my father's entire family, except Jim, who was in the war. It killed both of my parents. Everyone being so afraid of the disease, we had to bury our own parents." From a letter written by Wilson's son Henry T. Meador to his cousin Jimmie Johnson dated 11 June, 1925.
Sadly, both Susannah and her husband Wilson Turner Meador died of smallpox, he following her death two days later.
