    1870 US Census, Harmony, Susquehanna Co., Pennsylvania, pg 344, Nathan J. Bonham, age 37, laborer, b. Pa, Almira, age 30, F., Pa, Evangeline, age 11, b. NY, Chas H.,age 9, M, b. NY, Edith L., age 3, b. Pa., living next door to Robert Tobey, Almira's brother

    Miandia Tobey's diary entry states April 1874--Nathan Bonham died

    Nathan L. Bonham enlisted 8/21/1862 at Elmira, NY as a Private On 9/11/1862 he mustered into "C" Co. NY 141st Infantry. He was discharged for promotion on 10/29/1864.

    On 10/29/1864 he was commissioned into US CT 5th Infantry (date and method of discharge not given)He was promoted on 10/29/1864 to 2nd Lieut.

    On the 6th day of August 1881, personally appeared before me, a clerk of a Court of Record in and for the County and State aforesaid, Almira Bonham resident of Caton in the County of Steuben and State of N.Y. aged 46 years, who being duly sworn, makes the following declaration, in order to obtain the Pension provided by the Act of Congress approved July 14, 1862. That sheis the widow of Nathan L. Bonhham who was a 2nd Lieut. In Company M (?) Commanded by Nathan L. Bonham in the 5th Regiment of U.S. Colored Cav'y in the War of 1861; that her maiden name was Tobey and that she was married to said Nathan L. Bonham in or about the 19 day of Mch 1853 at Caton in the County of Steuben an dState of N.Y. by Rev. S. Tobey.....

    She further declares that said Nathan L. Bonham, her husband, died at Harmony in the State of Pa on or about the 1 day of April 1874of lung disease.....

    That the following are the names and dates of all the children of her deceased husband who were under sixteen years of age at the time of his death:

Diarrhaea, and returned to duty Dec 18, 1863 to Bks No 1. Was on sick report at Bks No 1, Louisville Ky, Dec 20, 21, 1863 with tonsillitis and Diarrhaea and sent to Hspl No. 10. Was admitted to Branch 10 of No. 2 G.H. Louisville, Ky Dec 21, 1863 with Diarrhea and transferred Jany 22, 23 1864. Was admitted to Taylor G.H. Louisville, Ky, Jan 23, 1864 with Chr. Diarrhaea and transferred

    examination for Commission in US Colored Troops, passed the requisite examiniation, was detailed to assist in recruiting and organizing Colored Troops August 19, 1864 per S.O. 199 - Dist of Ky., dated August 19, 1864 was announced as 2d Lieutenant 5th US Colored Cavalry to date
    from August 9, 1864 per S.O. 160 of L. Thomas Adjt Genl, USA, dated Louisville Ky Sept 19,. 1864 and through misunderstanding his commissionwas withheld from him until April 19, 1865. He is discharged as an enlisted man to date April 18, 1865 by reason of promotion to 2d Lieutenant Co M 5th US Colored Cavalry" Morning Report Book of Company "C" 141st New YorkVols for October 29,
    1863 shows him "sent to Hospital at Bridgeport, Ala. Nature of sickness not stated. Regimental Hopsital Records are not on file. Nothing additional.
