Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, December 14, 2013, 11:00 AM at La Grone Funeral Chapel for Evelyn Bunkie Deck Key, age 85, of Boot Ranch, Yeso, New Mexico, who passed away December 10, 2013, at her ranch home. Floyd Goodloe will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.

Bunkie was born in Roswell, New Mexico, May 15, 1928, to Tom Deck and Gladys Moss Deck. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin Ray Key, an infant daughter, a sister Edith McDougal, and a brother Tom Deck Jr.

She is survived by three children: Billy Ray Key of the family ranch Gary Lee Key and wife, Jeri, of Roswell and Sandra Barraza and husband Joe of the family ranch one sister, Dorothy Edwards of Ruidoso, New Mexico a sisterinlaw Sara Key of Fort Sumner, New Mexico seven grandchildren, five greatgrandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bunkie grew up on the Lazy T Bar Ranch east of Dunlap, New Mexico. She attended school through the eighth grade at Dunlap. In order to complete high school, she then moved to Roswell where she lived with W.C. and Mamie Urton. She graduated from Roswell High School in 1946, then attended Colorado State University and New Mexico A M, where she was an active member of the Tri Delta Sorority.

On June 18, 1949, Bunkie married Melvin Ray Key, also of Dunlap, New Mexico, in Roswell. They built their home at Wire Lake and established Boot Ranch, 55 miles north of Roswell, where they both resided until their death. Bunkie and her husband were active in the sheep and cattle business and ranched together in De Baca and Chaves Counties for over 50 years. Bunkie was a wonderful homemaker and was well known for her hospitality and the food that she prepared for her family, ranch crews, and anyone that stopped by the ranch. She was bookkeeper for the family business, a tax preparer for H R Block, and also kept books for Keys Welding ServiceDrilling and Pump Service for many years where she assisted her son.

Pallbearers will be Cody Key, Monty Key, Clinton Key, Casey Key, Lane Barraza, Brady Barraza, Garrett Goodloe, and Justin Bowman. Honorary Pallbearers include Richard Deck, Jeff Deck, Ron Merritt, Yogi Hurford, Harold Green, Heath Metcalf, and Jim Bob Best.

Special thanks are extended to Claudia Juarez and Jody Rogers for the special love and care that they extended to Bunkie and her family over the past months.

Family will greet friends at the viewing from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2013, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of La Grone Funeral Chapel.

Tom "Tuffy" Deck Jr.

Funeral services for Tom "Tuffy" Deck Jr., 80, of Roswell NM will be held Sunday March 17, 2013 at 2:00pm at the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Ft. Sumner, NM. Burial will follow in the Deck family plot, Ft. Sumner Cemetery. Floyd Goodloe will conduct the services. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Christopher Deck, Shane Deck, Daryne Deck, Corey Deck, Garrett Ott, Randy Jobe, and Jason Brown.

Tom was born on January 17, 1933 in Roswell to Tom Deck Sr and Gladys E. Moss, who preceded him death. He was also preceded in death by son Tom Deck III, sister Edith McDougal, first wife Barbara Tyler, second wife Yvonne Edwards, son in law Bruce Ott and brothers in law; Melvin Key, Robert Edwards and Billy McDaniel.

Tom is survived by his children, a daughter, Janice Ott of McAlester Oklahoma, two sons, Richard Deck and wife Lisa, Jeff Deck and wife Kathy of Roswell, two sisters, Dorothy Deck Edwards of Ruidoso NM, Evelyn "Bunkie Key" of Boot Ranch, Yeso NM. He is also survived by grandchildren Jamie Cole, Jessica Nooner and Garrett Ott of Oklahoma; Christopher Deck of Roswell , Lindsay Deck of Albuquerque; Randy Jobe, Shane and Daryn Deck of Roswell and Corey and Kelsey Deck of Roswell; as well as, brother and sister in law, Ralph Meadows and wife Bea and Jodie Yowell and husband Don along with many nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.

Tuffy was raised on the Lazy T Bar Ranch in Ft. Sumner and graduated from Ft Sumner High School in 1951. He was well known to the area as a rancher having worked on many well-known ranches across New Mexico and was also a pilot as a young man flying his family to church and Roswell from the ranch. Tuffy also worked as a truck driver for many years traveling coast to coast and locally for projects in the Phoenix area before retiring and returning to live near his family in Roswell, New Mexico. He was a great story teller and would make a "mean pot of beans". He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and will be remembered by all.
