I think I've tried posting this request before, but I'm trying again. We have had my husband's DNA tested through 37 markers with FTDNA. BIG PROBLEM....no one to match up to. There is no Lovelady Surname Project. It would be really helpful if some other Loveladys/Lovelady lines would have DNA testing done. Please consider.

My husband, Ernest Jesse Lovelady's (b: Oct 26, 1938 in Highland, KS) family is:

Ernest Jesse Lovelady, Sr., born: May 4, 1915 in Mound City, MO, d: Jan. 29, 1992 in St. Joseph, MO. Married Elinor Nell Snyder Sept 8, 1937. My husband is the only child of this union.

William Jesse (Jess) Lovelady b:Aug 28, 1877 in Seneca KS, d: Oct 23, 1951 in Highland, KS. He married Della Mae Hensley June 30, 1901 in Oregon, MO. They had Naomi Hester, Alvin Elijah, Loren Alonzo, William Robert (Pete), Ernest Jesse Lovelady, Melba Marguerite, Claribel Colene and Calvin Eugene.

William Benton Lovelady, b: May 15, 1842 in Platte Co, MO, d: Mar 31, 1928 in Craig, MO. He married Sarah Thacker Feb 4, 1861. They had Malinda (Alice), Elizabeth (died as an infant), John A., Francis (Frank), Moses (died as a child), Joel (Joseph), Susan Ellen, Nancy (died as an infant), Sarah Evalyne (Eva), and William Jesse.

Moses Jones Lovelady -- b: Mar 1803 in Nashville, TN, d: 1896 in Arcadia, OK. He appears to have married two ladies named Nancy..one Nancy Ward and one Nancy Cash??
Children of Moses and Nancy Ward include William Benton Lovelady.

John Henry Lovelady - b: 1770 in SC and d: 1841-1850? in TN. One of children of John H. and Mary Ellis was Moses Jones. I need to doublecheck dates on some of this info as it doesn't jibe. I have verified through census records and in some cases, death certificates, some of the above However, the Moses Jones and John Henry info needs some work.

It would be great if we could delineate -- through DNA -- as well as family, census, etc., records the various Lovelady lines and, perhaps, we could get back to the original Lovelady, Lovelatty, or whoever first came to this country. Thanks for listening and any help greatly appreciated.

Description: I would like to challenge this statement "My grandfather, John Lovelady, was a native of South Carolina. He and his wife both served in the Revolutionary and Indian Wars. Grandmother moulded bullets for the men while they fought, thus being used to camp and fort life:

I question that John Lovelady fought in the revolutionary war because he was born in 1773. He would have been only 3 years old. I do know that he found in the war of 1812 according to the Carthage Gazette: no. 142-Vol. III: Saturday March 14 1812:
    Patriotic Veterans Declaration of 1812
So perhaps this was just a mistake?

Letter from Grandson of John and Mary Lovelady on Their Early Life

The following is a letter from an unidentified grandson of John Lovelady, from Cave Creek, Newton County, Arkansas. The letter was written to John W. Bowens, author of an 1892 History of Smith County, Tennessee, and quoted in Mr. Bowen's book. The book, apparently typewritten and "self-published", is a classic on the county and is available at the Tennessee State Library and Archives.

"My grandfather, John Lovelady, was a native of South Carolina. He and his wife both served in the Revolutionary and Indian Wars. Grandmother moulded bullets for the men while they fought, thus being used to camp and fort life.

They came to Tennessee in a one-horse wagon, cutting their way through cane and grape vines with a butcher knife and hatchet. They stopped near the head of Dixon's Creek, on the land now owned by Jessee Parker. Here finding a good spring, they erected a camp beside a large log and used their wagon for a bed room. Thus they passed their first winter in what became Smith County, amid the howling of wolves, screaming of panthers, growling of bears, yelping of turkeys, and hooting of owls.

When spring came, they built a cabin about a hundred yards above the spring, cleared a patch for corn and other vegetables and thus made preparations to live.

My father, Asa Lovelady, married a daughter of Henry McWhorter, and was one of the early settlers on Peyton's Creek, where he continued to live until 1837 or 38.

Success to you in writing the history of my native county."

  1. 8.  Benjamin Bigeman Ellis was born on 19 Sep 1741 in Kent, Maryland (son of William Gordon Ellis and Mary Clarke); died after 1819 in Bear Creek, Montgomery Co, Missouri.

    Notes:

Occupation: Wheelwright, chair maker, owned a hand mill 1815 Bear Creek, Montgomery, Missouri
"In 1765 Benjamin Ellis sold his property in Rowan Co., NC (Deed Bk, 6, pg. 167-168) and moved his family to old Tryon Co., NC. Then in 1786 Benjamin moved a little farther west purchasing property in Greenville Co., SC in 1786 (Greenville Co., SC Deed Bk A, pg. 38). (This deed was witnessed by James Copeland, and John Bates. James Copeland had previously witnessed a deed for Benjamin Ellis in Rowan Co., NC, 1761). Between 1795-1798 the families were selling their SC property and moved to an area of Summer & Smith Counties in TN. Benjamin Ellis died 1802 near Hartsville, TN.
Benjamin Ellis settled on South Bear Creek in 1815 in Montgomery Co. MO. He was a wheelwright and chair maker, and also had a hand mill. He had 10 children. James Ellis settled on Bear Creek in 1819. If this is accurate, then he didn't die in TN.
ANDREW FOURT built the first hotel in Pinckney, and on court days he generally had a lively time. Men would come to town and get drunk, and then quarrel and fight in and around the hotel, which they regarded as a public place, where they could do as they pleased. Among the most noisy characters of that class was a man known as BIG BEN ELLIS, of South Bear creek, and one day he became so demonstrative that Fourt offered him a dollar to leave the house. Ellis took the money, stepped out at the door, came right back again, and told Fourt that if he would give him another dollar he would go home. They finally compromised on fifty cents, and he took his departure.
