THE FAMILY OF MICHAEL HOOTER, SR. & MARY BARBARA KEMBLE.

MICHAEL HOOTER (HUTTER) was born in Germany c 1727, possibly a Roman Catholic, died at Avoyolles Parish, LA in 1787. We know nothing of his parents. He married MARY BARBARA KEMBLE, also of Germany, born c 1733, died Dec. 22, 1796. This couple came to America, possibly landing at Baltimore, and from there they went to PA. They settled in Redstone and became embroiled in a battle over Indian Lands. The English Government gave them a land grant for 450 acres near Ft. Natchez on the Mississippi River. A large number of other families traveled with them, via flatboat down the river. They took control of the land c 1770, but sold it c 1776
and moved on to Pt. Coupee, LA. From there they made their way onto Avoyolles Parish. Children of this couple were:.

    2. JOSEPH HOOTER, born c 1765.

    from Melinda's website (copyrighted)
Patrick Clark was an early resident of Colonial Louisiana, having signed the death document of Maria Donegan or Duncan 15 August 1780. In November 1780, he sold a barge in a document that mentioned his brother "Clarens" (probably Terrance) as a recipient of some of the proceeds of the sale. He was the witness for the marriage of Louis Hooter to Marie Louise Valdrick 6 February 1793 (Louis may have been the brother of Patrick's son-in-law Joseph Hooter) and served as godfather to several of the children of his neighbors and kin. The last document found of Patrick is a land sale in 1809 to Asa White who is the second husband of daughter Sarah. Patrick does not appear in the 1810 census of Louisiana.
Text: This is the first document we see with Patrick's signature.

  1. 12.  Nicholas* Clark was born about 1717 in of, Ireland (son of (..)* Clark, Mr); died after 1766.

    Notes:

As a little known event to add to the troubles in Ireland in the middle of the eighteenth century, a famine occured in 1739-40 which was said to have caused nearly 400,000 deaths to occur in Ireland.

    Melinda writes of (..) Clark:
It is a supposition on the part of several Louisiana Clark researchers that Terence, Patrick, John and Francis are brothers. There is an additional Clark family in the Orleans Territory, headed by Matthew Clark and Isabelle Wilson, who may be another brother. There are various documents that link the descendants of the first four as cousins (find reference here from Sue Severson). Patrick's wife and Francis' wife both are named Melon/Malone (and various other transliterated spellings) and are both referred to as "from Baltimore, Maryland." In addition, there is a 1790 document executed by Patrick in which the scribe refers to his brother "Clarens", which may be Terence.
