    Thomas H. Mathews, 75, died at 10:38 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005, at Saint Anthony's Hospita l in Alton.
    He was born Jan. 15, 1930, in Alton to Willard R. and Gertrude A. (Herchenroeder) Mathews. H e married his high school sweetheart, the former Mary Helen Hunt, on April 16,
    1955, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton. She survives.
    The U.S. Marine Corps veteran was honorably discharged as a sergeant in
    1952. He retired from Alton Box Board as an electrician after 35 years of service. He
    was past president of UPP Union Workers Local 976 and a board member for many years at the Al ton Box Board Credit Union. He was a member of Alton Moose Lodge 951 and Alton-Wood River Spo rtsman's Club and managed Little League baseball in Alton for six
    years. An avid bowler and golfer, he belonged to several leagues. He was a member of SS. Pete r and Paul Catholic Church.
    In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Julie Ann and Marc Co cozza of Alton; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas V. and Liz Mathews of Overland Park, Kan. ; five grandchildren, Mitchell Ryan Daniels, Elizabeth Anne Enstall, Rebecca Marie Enstall, G race Helen Mathews and Natalie Rose Mathews; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy Mae an d Herman Boren of Godfrey and Carol Ann Martenize of Austin, Texas; one brother, Ralph Mathew s, and his wife, Mary Catherine, of Bethalto; one sister-in-law, Kaye Mathews of Alton; numer ous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and extended family members.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard Mathews; a sister and brother-i n-law, Ruth and Roland Jun Jr.; one niece, Linda Boren; and his inlaws, Victor C. and Helen M . Hunt.
    Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until services at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Gent Funeral Home i n Alton, with Father Roger Schoenhofen officiating.
    Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Godfrey.
    Memorials may be given to the Crisis Food Center or St. Vincent de Paul Society at SS. Pete r and Paul Catholic Church.

    Miss Mary Helen Hunt, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor C. Hunt, 814 McKinley Blvd., was m arried to Thomas H. Mathews this morning at 9 o'clock in SS. Peter and Paul's Church. Mr. Mat hews is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard R. Mathews, 711 Brown St.
    The double, ring ceremony, followed by nuptial mass, was used by the officiating clergyman, t he Rev. G. R. McCaughey. Spring flowers were arranged on the high altar.
    Mrs. Thomas E. Springman (Jeanne Long) was matron of honor for her cousin, and Ralph Mathews , brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Mrs. Springman's sisters, Mary Patricia and Kathry n Long, were flower girls, and the wedding rings were carried on a satin pillow by Roland E . Jun III, nephew of the bridegroom. Richard W. Mathews and Roland E. Jun were ushers.
    Miss Therese Springrnan played before and during the wedding, and as the bridal party entere d and left the church.
    Miss Hunt, who was escorted down the main aisle by her father, wore a gown of white embroider ed nylon tulle over taffeta, fashioned with an envelope bodice of tulle tucked to form a V-ne ckline and a bouffant skirt extended by hoops and crinoline. The skirt had a center panel i n front and a similar panel in back swept into a short train. The waistline of the gown was e mphasized with a small bustle, and
    the sleeves and neckline were edged with an embroidered design. A crown of seed pearls and rh inestones held her finger-tip veil in place, and her bridal bouquet was formed of lilies of t he valley and white roses.
    Mrs. Springman appeared in a very full floor length frock of varied shades of blue and a mat ching hat. She carried pink daisies. White tulle dresses, over taffeta, made with puffed slee ves, fitted bodices and full skirts were worn by the flower girls. They carried small basket s filled with flowers, and had matching blossoms for hair ornaments. Short white gloves compl eted their costumes.
    Breakfast was served at Hotel Stratford, and Mr. and Mrs. Hunt held a reception this afternoo n at the family home for their daughter and Mr. Mathews.
    Assisting at the reception were Miss Katherine Girard, Miss Joan Galloway, Miss Ann Weaver, M rs. Harold White, Mrs. Joseph Walter, Mrs. Samuel Ulett, Mrs. Christopher Fischer and Miss Re becca
    Hunt. Miss Hunt is a cousin of today's bride.
    After a trip Mr. and Mrs. Mathews will take up residence at 1909 Myrtle St. When she leaves M rs. Mathews will be wearing a three-piece costume suit in black and white, white straw hat wi th velvet trim,
    black faille short coat, and black patent leather accessories.
    Mr. Mathews, who was graduated from Marquette High School with the class, of 1948, is employe d in the laboratory of Alton Box Board Co, He spent two years in the Marine Corps.
    Mrs. Mathews, an inactive member of Beta Gamma Upsilon Sorority, is employed in the accountin g department of Owens-Illinois Glass Co. She was graduated in 1951 from Marquette High School .

    Willard Mathews, 72, of 711 Brown St., Alton, died at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Hosp ital. He had been ill three years.
    He was a watchman at the Alton Box Board for 35 years until retiring in 1966. Mr. Mathews wa s a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
    He was born March 29,1901, in Hardin and attended Hardin schools. On Aug. 7,
    1923, he married the former Gertrude Herchenroeder in St. Patrick's Church.
    Surviving are his widow, Gertrude; three daughters, Mrs. Roland (Ruth) Jun Jr. of Memphis, Te nn., Mrs. Herman (Dorothy) Boren of Godfrey and Mrs. William (Carol) Steelman of Godfrey; thr ee sons, Richard of Alton, Tom of Godfrey and Ralph of Alton; three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Wor shman of Bethalto, Mrs. Fred Zapp of Mascoutah, 111. and Mrs. Velma Miller of California an d 17 grandchildren.
    Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Staten Funeral Home where a prayer service will b e read at 8 p.m. today.
    A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with t he Rev. Brendan Keane as clebrant.
    Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

    GODFREY - Gertrude A. Mathews, 96, died at 7:50 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at D'Adrian Con valescent Center in Godfrey.
    Born Oct. 1, 1904, in St. Louis, she was a daughter of the late Conrad and Cathrina
    (Fortschneider) Herchenroeder.
    She married Willard Richard Mathews Aug. 7, 1923, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Alton . He died April 24, 1973.
    Surviving are three daughters and a son-in-law, Ruth Jun of Memphis, Tenn., Dorothy and Herma n Boren of Godfrey and Carol Ann Martinez of San Antonio, Texas; three sons and daughters-in- law, Richard and Kathryn Mathews of Alton, Thomas and Mary Helen
    Mathews of Godfrey and Ralph and Mary Mathews of Bethalto; 17 grandchildren; and 30 great-gra ndchildren.
    Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with a rosary at 4 p .m.
    The Rev. Father John Paul Klein will officiate at services at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Ca tholic Church in Alton.
    Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton.

    place at seven o'clock at the parsonage ot St, Patrick's church. The ceremony was performe d by the Rev. Francis B. Kehoe and was witnessed a small gathering of relatives Miss Mabel Ma thews of St. Louis, a sister ot the groom, and Ollle Fortschneider, ithe bride's cousin, wer e the attendants. Miss Herchenroeder was attired in a gown of white satin fashioned with ne t and pearls, and wore a hat of Spanish lace. Miss Mathews was gowned in peach blow organdy.
    The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Henry Kipp of Union street and is a charming young woman . On account of the illness of Mr. Kipp, the bride's step father, the wedding was very quiet .
    Following the wedding a supper was served at the Kipp home to eighteen guests. The supper tab le decorated with gladioli and a large wedding cake. Among those at the supper were the groom 's father, T. K. Mathews, his sisters, the Misses Mabel, Beulah and Chelca Mathews, and his c ousin, Miss Ione Hamilton,
    all of whom came up from St. Louis for the wedding

    Fieldon-Thomas Kinsman Matthews, 93, of Rte. 1, Fieldon (Nutwood), died at 10:25 a.m. Thursda y at the Firmin Desloge Hospital in St. Louis, MO., where he had been a patient for eight day s.
    The retired farmer was born April 15, 1875, in Jersey County. He married Ida Ramsey Matthews , who survives.
    In addition to his widow, he is survived by one son, Willard of Alton; three brothers, Mrs. M ildred Worsham of Bethalto, Mrs. Velma Broadman of Onteria, Calif., and Mrs. Beulah Zapp of M ascoutah; six step-children; 19 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by one daughter and one son.
    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville , the Rev. A.J. Maggos of Alton officiating.
    Burial will be in Hardin Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Saturda y.

    Body of Mrs. Mathcws Taken to Hardin Friday For Burial.
    The body of Mrs. T. K. Mathews who died at her home near Grafton, was taken to Hardin Frida y morning
    on a yacht for burial. Mrs. Mathews had only been a resident of this city for a few weeks, ha ving moved from Hardln. She was taken ill with pneumonia a few days ago, which proved fatal.
    Shc leaven to mourn her loss a young husband, four daughters and one son, besides many othe r relatives.
    Funeral services were conducted as soon as the funeral party got to Hardin. Burial was in Har din Cemetery,
    A large number of friends and relatives of the family accompanied the remains to its last res ting place.

    Death of Mrs. T. K.

    Mrs. T.'TK. Mathews, aged 38 years, died at her home about 3 miles north of Grafton, early Th ursday morning, after a brief illness of pneumonia.
    Mrs. Mathews was formely of Hardin, Ill., and moved to Grafton a few mouths ago with her husb and and family.
    She is survived by her husband and five children, four girls and one boy, between the ages o f four and sixteen years. The body will be taken to her former home in Hardin for burial

    John Snider, 80, Buried in County
    John Abraham Snider, 80, died at his home in Hardin last Thursday, December 14, at 10:40 p.m. , after an illness of about eight years. He was born January 17, 1860 in Jersey County and c ame to Calhoun County when a young man making his home in Hardin for 62 years.
    Mr. Snider spent all his working life at farming. He was the son of James Allen Snider of Je fferson County, Illinois and Rebecca Hill of Jersey County.
    He was married to Miss Mary Hyatt and to them ten children were born, six preceding the fathe r in death, namely Mrs. Katherine Matthews and Mrs. Addie Hamilton and four infants. He is s urvived by the widow Mrs. Mary Snider, two daughters Mrs. Wylis Arnett of Carlinville and Mrs . Laura Sheff of Alton; two sons, Allen and Ernst, both of Hardin.
    Other survivors are 22 grandchildren, 27 great grand children, two brothers, William and Henr y Snider of Hardin, one sister, Mrs. August Geske of Oak Grove, a large number of nephews an d nieces and many other relatives and friends who deeply mourn his departure.
    Funeral services were held in Hardin Sunday at the Presbyterian Church with Rev. Frank Cook e of Eldred officiating and burial was in the cemetery here, under direction of Kenneth Sidwe ll Funeral Service.
