Place of birth is uncertain due to two factors...

On the censuses he lists his place of birth as Tennessee. In his Illinois Civil War Detail Report, his nativity is Mount Vernon, Jefferson, Illinois.

James A. Snyder had the rank of PVT. He was in Company K, Unit 97 IL US INF.

His place of residence was Newburn, Jersey, Illinois. He was 5'10" with light hair, blue eyes, light complexion. He was married when he registered. His nativity was Mt. Vernon, Jefferson, Illinois.

He joined in 22 Aug 1862 in Newbern. He was joined by JJ Briggs. He mustered in 8 Sep 1862 in Camp Butler, Illinois. He mustered out on 29 Jul 1865 in Galveston, TX. He was mustered out by LT Lull.

At this time I am still trying to find the marriage for James and Rebecca. They are not listed in the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index. I am currently looking in Missouri.
