Will Orange Co NY Goshen Town -- I Joseph Coleman of the town of Goshen in the Co. of Orange and state of NY being of sound mind & memory do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following, towit:
First -- I will that all my just debts be paid out of my moveable estate by executors herein after named together with my funeral charges.
Also: I give & devise unto my son Nathan Coleman the farm of land and presmises whereon I now dwell with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging and appertaining to hold the same to him, his heirs and assigns foever subject to the payments of the legacies herein after bequeathed.
Also: I give to "daughters Martha and Ruth Coleman each one bed and bedding and the bed I commonly sleep on myself and bedding thereto belonging to be equally divided between them or to the survivor of them And it is also my wish that they shall hereafter make from the date of this my will by their industry and labor and that each of my said daughters, Martha and Ruth shall have the privilege of living in one of the rooms of the house I now dwell in with firewood to be delivered at the door by said son Nathan Coleman during the time that they and each of them shall remain unmarr.
Also: I give and bequeath unto my daughters Martha and Ruth 37 pounds 10 shillings to each of them and to my dau. Elizabeth the wife of Barnabas Horton the sum of 37 pounds 10 shillings and to my dau. Joanna the wife of Elihu horton the sum of 37 pounds 10 shillings.
And I do hereby order and it is my will that my said son Nathan Coleman shall pay the said sums of money to my said daughters last mentioned and hereby make the lands and premises I have heretofore in this my will given to my said son Nathan chargeable with and for the payment thereof. All the remainder of my personal estate I give and bequeath in the following manner towit: One equal seventh part thereof to my daughter, Mary the wife of William Coleman.
one other equal seventh part thereof to my grandchildren: Hannah Smith, Nathan Smith, Levi Smith, SIMEON SMITH, Mary Smith and Joseph Smith equally between them.
one other equal seventh part thereof to my daughter Hannah the wife of Henry Elsworth - one other equal seventh part thereof to my daughter Martha one other equal part thereof to my daughter Ruth - one other equal seventh part thereof to my dau. Eliz. Horton and if either of my said daughters last mentioned should die without issue I will that her or their share or shares so dieing be equally divided between surviving sisters and lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my said son Nathan Coleman and my friend, David Case Exec. of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former & other wills by me made. I, Joseph Coleman, above named Do make and publish this codicil to my last will & testament in manner following towit: wherefore my son Nathan Coleman hath departed this life since the day of my foregoing will and testament I do therefore give & devise the lands tenements & (house ) where I now dwell& shall die seized of to the children and heirs of my said son Nathan Coleman to them their heirs and assigns in fee simple. And whereas the widow of my said son Nathan Coleman is now pregnant with child which child when born and continuing to live shall be included in the devise in this my codicil and if other or any of the children of my said son Nathan shall die without lawful issue the share or shares of such so dieing shall be equally divided between the surviving and I do further will devise and order that my daughter-in-law the widow of my said son Nathan shall have the use and improvements of one third part of my real estate above devised during the time she shall remain the widow of my said son Nathan and no longer and lastly I do hereby nominate & appoint my neighbour James Carpenter with David Case exec. to my last will & testament annexed to the same -- witness my hand and seal and declared & published as and for my last will & testament the third day of Feb 1800 signed sealed published & declared to be a codicil to the last will & testament of the said Joseph Coleman in presence of us -- the word Nathan & The interlined in the codicil before signing & sealing -- Ishial Ross Horace Swezy Reuben Hopkins siigned Joseph Coleman

Orange Co ss: be in remembered that on the 25th day of Nov in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred at Goshen in the Co. of Orange personally appeared before me James Everett Surrogate of the said Co. of Orange Reuben Hopkins Esq and being duly sworn upon his oath saith that he did see Joseph Coleman deceased sign and seal the written instrument then shewn unto him of which the preceding is a true copy purporting to the last will and testament of the said Joseph Coleman dec. bearing date the 25th day of Feb 1791 and heard him publish and declare the same as and for his last will and testament and the said Ruben Hopkins upon this other further saith that he did see the said Joseph Coleman dec. also sign and seal the written instrument then also shewn unto him of which the preceding is also a true copy purporting to be a codicil to the last will and testament of the said Joseph Coleman deceased bearing date the 3rd of Feb last and heard him publish and declare the same to be a codicil to his last will & testament, that at the respective times thereof he the said Joseph Coleman was of sound disposing mind and memory to the best of the knowledge and belief of him the deponent an that he togther with Elliott Hopkins and Barnabas Horton to the said will and Ishiel Ross and Horace Swezy to the said codicil subscribed their names as witness in the testators presence in the presence of each other. The preceding is a true copy of the original will and the codicil thereunto annexed of Joseph Coleman dec. of the certificate of the proof thereof and of the letters testamentary thereon.
