  1. 2.  Deacon Daniel (Middlesex, MA) Stone was born on 31 Aug 1644 in Sudbury, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts (son of John (Middlesex, MA) Stone, (FFDNA-Jp) and Anne Howe); died in Mar 1718 in Framingham, Massachusetts.

    Notes:

    He had the mill, and May 22, 1711, sold a quarter interest in the water privilege to Samuel How, Sr., of Sudbury, but bought it back February 15, 1714. The mills remained in the Stone family until 1824, when the business was incorporated. Daniel settled in one of his father's houses near his father's residence. He was one of the first board of selectmen of the town of Framingham in 1700, and was for two years deacon of the Sudbury church before that. He married Mary (Moore) Ward, widow, a school teacher in 1693-4 in Sudbury died June 10, 1703, in Framingham. His son John administered the estate.

    Gregory Stone lived in Nayland from the time of his first marriage in 1617 until 1635 when he emigrated to New England. His emigration resulted fr om religious and economic conditions. During his early years Puritanism be came paramount in Essex and Suffolk, and persecution of its adherents led to the great Puritan emigration to New England that began with John Winthrop's fleet in 1630. In 1629 Gregory Stone was among several parishioners of Nayland who were fined for refusing to kneel to receive communion.

    CHURCH MEMBERSHIP: Admission to Watertown church prior to 14 May 1634 implied by freemanship. In 1639 Henry Jackson of Watertown gave Edward Howe of Watertown "one of the Elders of the Church there" a power of attorney to receive all Jackson's debts [ Lechford 192].

    EDUCATION: He signed his will and had ?1 worth of books in his inventory.

His landholdings as shown in the Composite Inventory were among the largest in Watertown [WaBOP 17], and, because his is one of the first entries in that inventory, there is much information about the way in which he purchased his additional land. The preparer of this inventory soon tired of giving so much detail.
