Otway McCormick was b. 11/26/1796, near what is now Summit Point, West Virginia, the son of George McCormick (who is bur. in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville). Otway's mother d. in childbirth, and he was raised by relatives near Summit Point. Ca. 1829, 0tway m. Sarah Ann Alexander (b. 11/3/1812), dau. of John Alexander of "Westbrook", and of his wife, the former Jemima Crigler. Sarah d. 2/24/1893, and Otway d. 11/21/1881, and both are bur. at Old Chapel.

In 1849, 0tway McCormick shingled the old Chapel.

Message: "I am descended from George McCormick, son of Francis McCormick and his second wife Frances Hickman Frost. His first wife was Anne Provience, daughter of Thomas Provience; both were quakers. Children of the second marriage were George, Anne, and probably Issac. McCormick genealogists had originally assigned all children but George to Ann; but evidence is surfacing that Ann was not the mother of some of the children previously assigned to her.
George McCormick married an unknown Pierce who died in childbirth. There son, Otway McCormick is buried in Old Chaple Cemetary, Millwood, Clarke County, Virginia.
Suggest you contact Mary Morris at the Clarke County Historial Association. Also get a copy of Stuart Brown's book on Old Families of Clarke County. The McCormick line is well researched."

His grave was one of five McCormick graves that were moved to Green Hill Cemetery (old section) from the old Glass family cemetary [sic] (near Berryville) when the railroad was built, ca. 1883. The path of the railroad ran through the graveyard.
