    Notes:

    Jonn lived in Newbury, Rowley, and Haverhill, Massachusetts., and moved to Suffield, Connecticut in 1680. After he settled in Suffield it appears from all records that he was energetic, well-to-do, a prominent citizen, and large land holder. The last year or two of his life his mind went wrong -- the same with his half-brother, Caleb, only at a younger age.

    The Burbanks were from Rowley, Mass., the aadjoining town to Newbury. John, Sr., lived at Haverhills, Mass., after his marriage on Oct. 15, 1663, and removed to Suffield in 1680, being a proprietor. His wife died 16 Oct., 1690, and he married twice again. He lived at the north end of Feather Street, near the river. His son John, husband of Mary Granger, was also prominent in all town matters. He was elected surveyror, tithingman (an important office), constable, gauger, and sealer of casks, assessor, town treasurer, and served repeatedly as selectman.

    John Burbank was born in 1600 in Greystoke, Cumberland, England. Baptized 12 Sept 1602. Son of John Burbank and Ann unknown of England. Married first to Ann Jordan. With this union came two children. Second marriage to Jemima Unknown in 1643 in Rowley, Essex, MA. With this union, three children.

    John sailed to America on the ship "Abigail" in 1635 arriving in Salem, MA. He moved to Charlestown, which is now part of Boston, MA. John was servant to a glove-maker who paid for John's passage.

    Owned the seventh lot on Bradford Street in 1643, being one of the first 40 families in "Rogers Plantation." This area is now Rowley, Essex Co., MA.
    "To John Burbank, one lott containinge an acree and an halfe, bounded on the south side by Thomas Sumner's house lott, part of it lyinge on the west side, and part of it on the east side of the streete"

    Owned some fresh meadow on Plum Island in 1672.

    On 13 May took freeman's oath at meeting of the General Court.
