    Notes:

    After marriage in 1846 moved to Illinois, then returned to Tennessee. In 1860 census, his mother and father, Benjamin and Olive, were living with him. He was a minister in TN.
    Their children were:
    Hugh Bonham, b 1849, practiced law in Clinton TN, murdered there in 1879

  1. 2.  Benjamin Bonham was born in 1775 in Loudoun Co, Virginia (son of Benjamin B. Bonham and Phoebe Oney); died before 1866 in Blount Co, Tennessee.

    Notes:

    When his father left Loudoun about 1782, moved to Tennessee, married in Greenville, TN, then moved in about 1812 to Blount Co, TN where he bought a farm on the Caney Branch near the village of Louisville. He was a Methodist minister in Blount Co, and is buried there. On Feb 21, 1866 I.E. Stone, heir to the estate, received final settlement. Seven of Benjamin's sons were ministers.

    Benjamin married Olivia Saffell on 3 Apr 1797 in Greenville, Green Co, Tennessee. Olivia was born about 1775; died after 1860 in Blount Co, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Benjamin was probably a minister, as was at least three of his sons. All were educated well by standards of the time.

    Nathan was a minister and moved to Wythe Co, Va in 1791 and married several of the Bonham family there. Among the marriages was that of Nehemiah Bonham and Isabelle Scott and Deborah and Benjamin Peck, both couples married on the same day, 5 Jn 1796. Jeremiah bonded for her.
    Smith and David left Virginia "which was becoming controlled by slaveholders and which made it difficult for a man of modest means to make a living for their growing family; so they decided to go to Ohio, which was opened up as a free State." (he Bonham Family)

    Notes:

    He was in Hunterdon Co, NJ in 1722. The tax roll contained the names of 138 men subject to taxation and among them was Nehemiah Bonham. the town records of Hopewell for 1729-1730 lists Nehemiah as "Constable." (The Bonham Family)
    There is a possibility of another child, Amy Bonham, b: May 18, 1725 in New Jersey, but she is not listed in "The Bonham Family" by Samuel J. Bonham.

    At a town meeting held on March 10, 1729/1730 Nehemiah Bonham and John Carpenter were elected constables for Hopewell Township.

    Nehemiah Bonham lost title to his land about 1734 as a result of the Coxe Affair.
    The Coxe Affair - Many residents of Hopewell Township lost ownership of their land to Colonel Daniel Coxe. Coxe demanded that Hopewell landowners either purchase their property from him again or be evicted. On April 22, 1731, fifty landlowners unsuccessfully sued Coxe to resist eviction.Some families immediately left and settled further south in Virginia and North Carolina, others paid him, and some resorted to acts of revenge.
