Andrew J. LOvelady was 21 and living in Fremont Co., Iowa, when he enlisted as a Private in Co. A of the 4th Iowa Calvry on Dec 18, 1861.

He suffered a severe wound to his right foot during action at Brice's Crosswords, MS, on June 10, 1864, resulting in the amputation of his right foot. He was discharged due to his wounds on March 27, 1865, at Keokuk, Iowa.
