Jonathan first appeared in Loudoun Co., Va. on April 13, 1761, when he was granted 180 acres in that county, and again on April 14, 1761, he was granted 100 acres in Loudoun Co. (Richmond, Va. Patents, Northern Neck, Vol. I, p. 66; Vol. K, p. 273).

On March 16, 1764, Jonathan Palmer and wife Margaret deeded to Thomas Ray, all of Loudoun Co., 25 acres on Round Hill, part of a tract which Jonathan had obtained from
the Proprietors, adjoining William Fowler and Isaac Nichols (Vol. D., p. 247).
Again, on Nov. 14, 1764, Jonathan Palmer and wife Margaret deeded to Harmon Coxe of Orange Co., N.C. a tract of 100 acres which Jonathan had obtained from the Proprietors, adjoining John Hanbey's property (Vol. D., p. 486).
On March 16, 1770, Jonathan Palmer deeded to Samuel Butcher 55 acres on Round Hill, adjoining property of William Fowler, Thomas Ray, and Isaac Nichols (Vol. H., p. 2).
On June 4, 1782, William Bartlett and wife deeded to Jonathan
Palmer 60 acres, which had been patented to said William in Book I, p. 186 (Vol. N., p. 417).

He evidently served in the Revolutionary War as appears by a declaration of military service in Frederick Co., Va., dated June 6, 1780, showing that he had served in the old
Va. Reg. from that county (Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Va., by Chalkley, 1912, Vol. 2, p. 506).
