The oldest, Mary (1842-1912), married James Belknap in Jackson Co., Missouri. The moved to Colorado about 1863. The Moore and Young families lived in the ?Burnt District? around Independence and lost everything. The Belknaps can be found in the 1870 census of CO living in the upper Beaver Creek District. They later moved to the Hillside, Fremont, CO, area, between Cotopaxi and Westcliffe. This is the family that I started initially researching for the Hillside ?San Isabel? Cemetery.

    Hi,

I found your site on and thought that you might be interested in the obituary for Esther Lamira Moore Young. It includes the marriage and death date for her husband, James Moore. The obituary is attached. I am not related to this family but am doing research about people buried in a cemetery that we are trying to make a heritage landmark site. Her children by her first husband, Sarah Stokes Hardin, and children with James Young lived in Fremont County, CO, after leaving Jackson County, Missouri. If you would like further information on this family, please let me know.

Esther Lamira listed in the census under her step-daughter, Martha Young. Esther Lamira was listed in the 1850 census as head of the household along with her children, an elderly Sarah Moore that I assume is Esther's mother, and a Martha and Alex Young, that I knew were not Esther children and assumed were step-children.

Esther Lamira Young is buried in a small cemetery on the hill behind the school in Cotopaxi. She is not buried in the Cotopaxi Cemetery. Nobody seems to know why. One person seemed to think that the person in charge of the Cotopaxi Cemetery at the time, Charlie McCoy, didn?t want her buried there. McCoy?s father was also part of Quantrill?s Raiders in Missouri and the family didn?t leave the robbing and murder behind in Missouri when they moved to Colorado. Charlie's sister, Minnie, married the oldest son of Jeremiah and Lamira Hylton. They had a son and then divorced.
