Subject: A correction to your family tree

You might want to correct the family tree you have posted here:

http://sherrysharp.com/genealogy/familygroup.php?familyID=F23466&tree=Roots the woman that married Robert Melton was not Mary Farrar.

Her birth name was Farr, not Farrar. A descendant of the Melton family seeking to obtain an Ancient Planters certificate created a genealogical crime, by conflating Mary Farr (Pharr) with Mary Farrar (wishful thinking at best). The only thing the two names have in common are an F and two R's, the same problem occurs with the Ferris and Farris.

Frustrating to some because they have no documentation on Mary Farr, There are also those who claim that Elizabeth O Farr who married another Melton was also a Farrar.

To start with Mary and Elizabeth Farr were born in Kent County, and all the children of Thomas Farrar and Katherine Perrin were born on the 2,000 acre patent filed by the father of Thomas Farrar, a peninsula on the James River, in Then Chesterfield County, today's Chesterfield County, that peninsula was turned into an Island after the civil war by the Corps of engineers when a cut was made to straighten it.

None of the Family of Col William Farrar II, father of Thomas Farrar and his brother William III ever lived in Kent County.

This crime is further proved by the fact that Mary Farrar married Joseph Watkins and the couple had a daughter Mary Isabelle Watkins b 1732 and married Henry Willis. This is two years after Mary Farr married Robert Melton.

Another internet poster tried to get around that by asserting that Mary Farrar had a bastard by Robert Melton. A ridiculous claim, as she was still married to Joseph Watkins
