    Other Events and Attributes:

    Notes:

    CAROLINE WEST

The first record found to date on Caroline is the 07 April 1818 marriage to George Laughlin, the son of Thomas Laughlin and Catherine Forman. Their children are not currently known.

Sometime before 1837 Caroline had either married or cohabitated with a Cummings. It is not known whether George Laughlin was deceased at this time. On 04 July 1837, Port Barre, La., she gave birth to a daughter, Laura Cummings, and at somnt either before or after Laura's birth, she had another daughter, Mary Ann Cummings.

It is not known what happened to this Mr. Cummings, but on 16 August 1847 Caroline married Paul Quintany, and is mentioned as being formerly the wife of George Laughlin. It is presumed that Mr. Laughlin was deceased by this time.

The 1850 St. Landry census shows Household #131, Family #150, Head of Household Paul Jeantonin, age 25, male, planter, $500 real estate, could not read or write. In his household was Caroline, age 55, and Laura Commins, age 12 or 13, bo. Next door in HH#130 was Jacob Commons, age 23. There is no explanation at this time as to why daughter Mary Ann was not living with them in 1850.

It should be noted here that on her marriage to George Laughlin in 1818, Caroline could not read or write. Yet when daughter Laura married in 1851, Caroline wrote a note giving her permission to marry, and signed this note Caroline Cummingater that same year, Caroline wrote another note giving daughter Mary Ann permission to marry, and signed that one Caroline West. The handwriting on both notes appears to be the same. Did she learn to read and write by 1851? Witness at daughter Laura's marriage was Paul Cantani, and Laura's husband, Samuel J. Hook, was securitor when Mary Ann, Laura's sister, married Cyprien Charles.

Forman, Ephrem m Elizabeth Brown (Opel Ch)

"I have this couple listed in my gen database as Joseph Ephriam Foreman, Sr., and Mary Elizabeth Brown. He was the son of Edward Foreman, Sr., and Mary Burnett. Her parents are unknown. Ephriam m. 2nd Charlotte Gaskins.

"I do not believe either Ephriam or Elizabeth was born in Opelousas. The reported birth places of their children are VA or NC, NC, and SC. It appears that Ephriam did not arrive in MS Territory until the last couple of years of the 18th century or the first couple of the 19th.

"From what little data I have on the early Foremans, it appears that they did not move to LA until the early 1780s. Before then, some of them had been in the Natchez area for an unknown time. I don't know if Ephriam ever moved to LA. Some of the Foremans stayed in MS; some who came to LA went back to MS."

    Birth:
    Name: Catherine Foreman

    Mother: Marie Burnet Bosnell
    Birth Date: 1772
    City: Opel
    County: St Landry
    State: LA
    Country: USA

(note: this makes Catherine 51 when Margaret was born; but dates could be off a little one way or the other. Speculation was that Catherine's b.d. was more like 1766.)
also Edward was known to be in British West Florida in 1772, not in Opel until aft 1779.
(record sent to my by Anita Richmond who had received it from Lovena Garrison)

    ===================
1810 census shows Catherine 1766-1784 age range
1820 census shows Catherine 1774-1796 age range
    combining these two leaves 1774-1784
She married 1793; last child born 1823
if she was born 1774; then married at age 19; last child, age 49 - possible
if she was born 1784, then married at age 9 - not possible
to be 15 at marriage she would be 1778 making her 45 at last child - more likely
this leaves her age range 1774-1778. James had to be 1774; meaning Catherine had to be 1776-1778.
