Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Sarah Sugg (daughter of Thomas Sugg and Sarah Eldridge or Aldridge (possibly)).

Family/Spouse: Thomas Attmore. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Thomas Sugg was born about 1690 in Norfolk Co, Virginia (son of George Sugg and Sarah Ives); died in 1763 in North Carolina.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Property: 2 Sep 1734, Norfolk Co, Virginia
    • Census: 1763, Anson Co, North Carolina

    Notes:

1.Thomas - b. about 1700. Since the birth year for son Thomas has been estimated as early as 1690, he may have been the son of Sarah, as shown here, the son of Miss IVES, or the son of an unknown earlier wife of George SUGG. Found on the tithable list of 1730 in Norfolk Co., VA, Thomas was bequeathed 70 acres by father. Resided in Anson Co., NC. Thomas may have married several times, one wife being Sarah ELDRIDGE, daughter of William ELDRIDGE. There is much uncertainty about their family, but possible children are: Thomas married Mary HARBARD; William married Sarah MATHIAS; Kesiah married William McGEE; Sarah married Thomas ATTMORE; Elizabeth married Joseph REHEM; Priscilla married Ben ATKINSON; Aquilla married first Lucy READING, and second Elizabeth STAFFORD; John married Elizabeth MURPHRY; and Absalom married Vinil BUNN.

note: he was probably born after 1696.
A deed dated July 20, 1696, and recorded in Deed Book 6 of Norfolk County, Virginia, is signed by Timothy and Elizabeth Ives (by marks), and grants 130 acres of land unto "my son-in-law, George Sugg & his daughter Margaret Sugg."
This indicates Margaret was likely the only child of George Sugg at this time.

The information below was located by me during a trip to the Carter County Genealogical Society, located at 35 Sunset Drive, Ardmore, Oklahoma. While there I was able to locate a binder of information regarding the SUGG/SUGGS families.I have compiled some of the information below and am planning another trip there to collect more info at a later date.

This information starts with Thomas Sugg, son of George and Sarah (Ives) Sugg and will continue through information I have to date.

It is 42 pages long.I am listing this in hopes of helping others and possibly getting more information of others regarding this family.

The information below was located by me, during a trip to the Carter County Genealogical Society, located at 35 Sunset Drive, Ardmore, Oklahoma. While there I was able to locate a binder of information regarding the Sugg/Suggs families.I have compiled some of the information below and am planning another trip there to collect more information at a later date.

I have started this with Thomas Sugg, son of George and Sarah Ives Sugg and will continue through what information I have to date.

From this study of information it would seem possible Thomas Sugg, son of George Sugg and Sarah Ives may have married a Sarah possible Aldridge/Eldridge with family consisting of possible as follows:
Thomas Sugg, Sr. who married a Mary.
    William Sugg
Kesiah Sugg who married possible a William McGee
Sarah Sugg who married possible a Thomas Attmore
Elizabeth Sugg who married possible a Joseph Rehem
Priscilla Sugg who married Possible a Ben Atkinson
Aquilla Sugg, Jr. who married Lucy Reading
John Sugg, Sr. who married Elizabeth Murphry
Absalom Sugg, Sr. who married possible a Vinil Bunn
(Absalom and Vinil were my (Wynona G. Maxey) 5th Great Grandparents)
Aquilla, Jr., John, Sr. and Absalom, Sr. may have left the New Hanover/Duplin County, North Carolina area after their possible father, Thomas Sugg?s death, where upon they settled on land granted to them in Johnston and Dobbs County, North Carolina.

    Other Events and Attributes:

George, son of William SUGGE, was named in his brother William's will of 1704. Juryman 1708. A Family Called Fort, by Homer T. Fort, Jr. and Drucilla Stovall Jones (Midland, TX; 1970) is subtitled "The Descendants of Elias Fort of Virginia", and provides much SUGG family information in tracing the genealogy of George's granddaughter Sarah (SUGG) FORT, wife of Elias FORT. Married first by 1696, a daughter of Timothy IVES as revealed in a Deed of 1696 in which he names his granddaughter Margaret, daughter of George SUGG. Married second, possibly shortly after 1696 to Sarah (possibly the daughter of Lemuel WILSON), who may have been the mother of the younger children. It is also possible that George had another wife (mother of one or more of his youunger children) between his marriage to Miss IVES and his marrige to Sarah..

Miss IVES - b. about 1660-70, VA; d. before Jul. 1696, VA. Daughter of Timothy IVES and Elizabeth HURLE.

From a Sow or a Sparrow, by Dorris D. Hendrickson and Paul L. Hisaw (1988), provides much information on the early records about the SUGG family. Descendants from all three SUGG brothers are discussed, but principally those of William SUGG,through his son Moses and grandson William..

This information about William SUGGE, together with much supplementary data on these early SUGG generations is based upon the research of Bill SIMMONS and Scott TRIMBLE, both SUGG descendants through Priscilla (SUGG) ALLEN, daughter of George SUGG. Though it is probable that further research will require additional revisions in the material presented here, it is believed to be basically correct - except when uncertainty is stated. For an exceptional amount of research material and documentation, and additional descendants of the SUGG lines, please visit Scott Thomas Suggs TRIMBLE's Genealogy Articles and Files web page ..

    .
William SUGGE - b. about 1635, Bristol, England; d. about 1691, VA. It is believed that the three brothers named SUGG who appear in Norfolk Co., VA in the late 17th century were sons of William SUGGE. A bond of Mar. 20, 1663 between William SUGGE and John BROWN of Isle of Wight Co., VA may have been for indentured servitude, sponsorship for the trip to America, or as a marriage bond. In the first two cases, John BROWN may have been a close relative, and in the latter case, he may have been his father-in-law. Note that the estimated birth years of his sons begin about 1663..

    Children:
    1. 4. George Sugg was born about 1665; died before 21 Feb 1734 in Norfolk Co, Virginia.
    2. William Sugg (Suggs) died between 10 Feb 1704 and 16 Aug 1708 in Norfolk Co, Virginia.

ia. He died after 1716 in Norfolk County, Virginia. Information on the death date of Timothy Ives came from the web site of Stephen Martin Lawson. Also listed on this web site was the following information: Timothy lived near his brother John. A deed dated« July 20, 1696«/b»», and recorded in Deed Book 6 of Norfolk County, Virginia, is signed by Timothy and Elizabeth (by marks), and grants 130 acres of land unto "my son-in-law, George Sugg & his daughter Margaret Sugg." [Copied by me, Danny A. McBee, May 9, 1998].

Thomas and Fenford sold property located on Deep Creek in Norfolk Co., Va. On 17 May 1713 to Timothy Ives (D.B.9,p.209). They bought land "located on the line of the eastmost corner of the Indian patent" about 1713 ( Ferebee .1935:sec.2). I have not located a deed or grant for this property. Thomas and Fenford called this plantation the Poplars. It was near the home of Marmaduke Etheridge (ca.1648-aft.1716) whose second wife, Barbara Fenford (d.aft.1716), was the aunt of Fenford Ferebee. Thomas Ferebee sold his last piece of property in Virginia on Deep Creek, Norfolk Co. To Timothy Ives on 11 May 1724, "part of a patent granted ye John Ferebee dated ye 20th of April 1685" (D.B."F"p.110

Property 1704 in Norfolk County, Virignia (Property owner (400 A.) on Norfolk County quitrent roll) [2, 11]. He died Aft. 1716 in Norfolk County, VA.

A land patent was issued 3/15/1675 to Timothy Ives, Jr., for 270 acres in Lower Norfolk County,
"on the West side of the South Branch of the Elizabeth River, beginning near the mouth of
Guillam's Run to a marsh against old Butts (or Britt's) Creek..." 200 acres of this parcel was
described as having been "...assigned to Timothy Ives, Senr." on 2/15/1671, "who assigned to the above named, his son..." (Cavaliers and Pioneers, v. 2, p. 173). Though this location has not
been positively identified, it would seem to place Timothy's property in the present-day cities of
    either Chesapeake or Portsmouth, VA.

A deed dated July 20, 1696, and recorded in Deed Book 6 of Norfolk Co., VA, is signed by
