Report from Mrs. Lee Palmer, professional genealogist

A condensed version of 11 pages of Weatherly genealogy taken from the Greensboro, North Carolina Public Library and the County Court House..

There were two brothers that settled on Buffalo Creek and Reedy Fork Creek in North Carolina. They were Edward and William Weatherly, William was thought to have been born in either Virginia or West Virginia, town not known. .

    Edward - married - - Henrietta?
    issue:
    Mark
Sarah -- married William McClintock in 1793.
    Edward
Elizabeth -- married Samuel Fulton in 1796.
    William *2
    Mary -- married Aaron Bishop.
    Martin
Henrietta -- married Joseph J. Stafford.
    Deborah -- married Elkanah Chilcutt.
William Weatherly *1, located on Reedy Fork, wife's name unknown.
    issue: Abner, Joseph and others.

The William Weatherly family built a big brick home on Randleman Road, Greensboro, N. C. with slave labor (have photo of it) they had 2000 acre plantation, most of it has gone into a develpement at this time. The late Mrs. Teague was the last link of this immediate family, no issue..

In 1790 census of Guilford county, North Carolina appears the name of Jesse R. Weatherly, b. March 9, 1818, son of Joseph Weatherly, b. October 8, 1774. Joseph Weatherly was a skilled carpenter..

After their 1800 marriage in Tennessee, Joseph and Resigna (Regina or Rezina) Weatherly moved to Madison County, Alabama, and were there in 1831 or 1832. Next they moved to Benton ( now Calhoun ) county Alabama, about 6 miles north of Anniston, and some 3 miles southwest of Alexandria, Alabama, purchased a home there and that is where Joseph died at 77 1/2 yrs. of age, June 1, 1852. The 1850 census listed Joseph Weatherlys householk as follows: Joseph 76 a carpenter, Resigna 68, William M. 39 teacher, Joseph P. 25 farmer, Georgia Raley 13, the latter must have been a grandchild.

From the court records of Real Estate..

Samuel Fulton (same S. Fulton that married Elizabeth, dau. of Edward W) of Guilford county, N. C. to Joseph Weatherly, also of Guilford county, for $225.00 all that tract of land in Guilford county on the waters of Reedy Fork, containing 147 acres. It is my will that James M Weatherly should be my Executor to put in execution this my last will and testament. Given under my hand & seal this 19th day of April, 1835.

    Jane Donnell
    State of Tennessee
Rutherford County Court May Term 1835
The foregoing last will and testament of Mary Weatherly was duly proven by the oath of Cks Charles Ready & Jas Donnell subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered recorded.
Recorded January 12, 1836 John R. Laughlin Clerk
Recorded Book 9 Pg 203 Rutherford County, Tennessee"

    Research Notes:
if dates are correct, Mary is a bit old to be marrying Abner. Then she names her step kids in her will, but his death date is before those kids were apparently born. Looks like Abner with the 3 kids mentioned in Mary's will is a Jr., and Mary Doak is his mother; then Abner Jr. married a Mary as well.
