John Mathis Patton

Notes:

John M. Patton, b. ca 1793-6 Washington Co Tn, d. 18__ White Pine, Washington Co. John married three times. He first married Griselle Moyers on 14 Apr 1813 in Jefferson Co. (marr. # 1058); bond was signed by John M Patton and William Mathes. All of John's children were by her. She died soon after the death of her father, Wm Mathes, and is buried in the old Moyer family home orchard. John served as executor of his father-in-law's estate.

He married second Elizabeth Lyles on 15 Nov 1831 (marr. bond # 2435, by Jno M Campbell VDM);

married (3) Eddy Leons on 2 Nov 1834 (bond # 2602).
We find John and Eda Patton in 1850 in Grainger Co Tenn. 1860?

John died intestate in 1863, buried Westminster Presb Church- his son Samuel was executor.

Edy was living in 1889 in Jefferson Co Tenn.

John Patton was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where the record of baptism of his children was kept.

John married Grizzelle Blackburn Moyers (Myers) on 06 May 1813 in Jefferson Co, Tennessee. Grizzelle (daughter of James David* Moyers (Myers), (DNA) and Mary* "Polly" Blackburn, (DNA)) was born in 1794 in Dandridge, Jefferson Co, Tennessee; died in 1830. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

3. Elizabeth Wood Patton was born in 1818 in Dandridge, Jefferson Co, Tennessee; died after 1839.
4. Susan Jane Patton was born on 08 Nov 1821 in Dandridge, Jefferson Co, Tennessee; died on 21 Jul 1883 in El Dorado Springs, Tennessee.
5. Samuel Alexander Patton was born on 30 Jan 1824 in Dandridge, Jefferson Co, Tennessee; died on 30 Jan 1889 in Waco, Sedgwick Co, Kansas.
6. John Jefferson Patton was born in 1824 in Dandridge, Jefferson Co, Tennessee; died after 1825.
7. William Mathis Patton was born on 22 Jan 1827 in White Pine, Jefferson Co, Tennessee; died in 1890 in Crabtree, Haywood Co, North Carolina.

Notes:

The Pattons were originally landed gentry seated at Ferrochie, Fifeshire, Scotland. The progenitor of the Irish branch of the family, William Patton, M.A., was born in Scotland; had immigrated to Northern Ireland during the King James Plantation. He was in County Donegal by 1626, as Rector of the parishes of Ramoigh and Clonmary, Barony of Raphoe and later at Aughnish, Barony of Kilmacrenan. Reverend William Patton and his wife, Margaret, made their home at an estate called 'Groghan', and reared two sons, Henry and John.

Henry's son, also named Henry, married Sarah Lynn, daughter of David Lynn of Kilmacrenan and a descendant of the Lynns of Loch Lynn, in Scotland. Henry and Sarah lived in the Manor of Springfield, Parish of Clondevaddock, Barony of Kilmacrenan, County Donegal. They became the parents of James, Elizabeth, Andrew, and Richard".
