    THE FAMILY OF MICHAEL HOOTER, SR. & MARY BARBARA KEMBLE.

    MICHAEL HOOTER (HUTTER) was born in Germany c 1727, possibly a Roman Catholic, died at Avoyolles Parish, LA in 1787. We know nothing of his parents. He married MARY BARBARA KEMBLE, also of Germany, born c 1733, died Dec. 22, 1796. This couple came to America, possibly landing at Baltimore, and from there they went to PA. They settled in Redstone and became embroiled in a battle over Indian Lands. The English Government gave them a land grant for 450 acres near Ft. Natchez on the Mississippi River. A large number of other families traveled with them, via flatboat down the river. They took control of the land c 1770, but sold it c 1776
    and moved on to Pt. Coupee, LA. From there they made their way onto Avoyolles Parish. Children of this couple were:.

    1. MICHAEL HOOTER, born c 1755. He marr NANCY LOVELESS. Died at Catahoula, LA 17 July 1815.
    2. JOSEPH HOOTER, born c 1765.
    3. PHILLIPPE, born c 1767.
    4. LOUIS.
