4. | Nicholas^ Anthony was born in 1780 in Orange Co, North Carolina (son of Jacob^ Anthony, Sr (immigrant) and Mary Magdalena^ Shoffner, (immigrant)); died in 1858 in Bedford Co, Tennessee. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: By the late 1850s, in his late 70s, he was suffering from some form of dementia. In September 1858 a jury was appointed "to examine the lunacy of Nicholas Anthony".[7] In October the jury reported he "was a lunatic and unable to take care of his business," and the court appointed his son Laton J. Anthony as his guardian.[8] Nicholas, who would have been about 78 at this time, died within a year, as his will was proved at the October court 1859, with the widow Sally Anthony and Laton J. Anthony appointed as his administrators.[9] The will itself no longer exists, but later court records make it clear that he left one piece of property to his children and his home place property to Sally during her lifetime with reversion to his children at her death. Nicholas^ married Sarah^ "Sally" Nicholson about 1803 in Orange Co, North Carolina. Sarah^ was born in 1783 in Almance, Orange Co, North Carolina; died in 1870 in Shelbyville, Bedford Co, Tennessee. 5. | Sarah^ "Sally" Nicholson was born in 1783 in Almance, Orange Co, North Carolina; died in 1870 in Shelbyville, Bedford Co, Tennessee. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Possibly Sarah and Elizabeth are one and the same. However, since Archibald Nicholson left to grandson Young Anthony, named his daughters, indicates Elizabeth, mother of Young, was already deceased in 1821 and Sarah was a different wife. But Sarah was not a named mentioned in Archibald's will; so prob not a sister to Elizabeth; in fact, not sure were researchers even found her name to be Nicholson.

6. | John^ Pollock was born about 1771 in Ireland or Pennsylvania (son of Robert^ Pollock, (immigrant) and Elizabeth^ Cowan, (Immigrant)); died between 1843 and 1850 in Bedford Co, Tennessee. Notes: The earliest record found for one of Robert Pollock's sons was that of John Pollock who in 1790 appeared on the muster roll of a military unit composed of men from Washington, Sullivan, Green and Hawkins Counties. John Pollock also appeared on he militia roster of the Jefferson Regiment from Hamilton District in 1794 and a Jesse Pollock was on the Green Regiment roster from Washington District. Assuming that John Pollock was a young man about 20 years old in 1790, this would make him born about 1770. This approximation is corroborated by other evidence of his age: on the 1820 census of Bedford Co, TN he was listed as over 45 years of age (born before 1775). John^ married Mrs. Alice^ "Alsey" (..) Pollock about 1790 in Tennessee. Alice^ was born about 1771 in North Carolina; died before 1850 in Bedford Co, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
7. | Mrs. Alice^ "Alsey" (..) Pollock was born about 1771 in North Carolina; died before 1850 in Bedford Co, Tennessee.

Notes: A letter written by Ephraim M. Anthony (1836-1908), a son of Adam Anthony and grandson of Jacob Anthony, on 30 July 1902 to Thomas Shofner, and published in the Shoffner Family History, confirms the marriage and lists some of the children. Jacob^ married Mary Magdalena^ Shoffner, (immigrant) about 1773. Mary (daughter of Michael Christian^ Shoffner, (immigrant) and Ann Margaretha^ Fogleman (Vogleman), (immigrant)) was born in 1757 in Frankford, Frankfurt am Main, Hessen, Germany; died on 26 Mar 1827 in Orange Co, North Carolina; was buried in St. Paul's Lutheran Ch, Alamance Co, North Carolina. 12. | Robert^ Pollock, (immigrant) was born about 1740 in Coleraine, Co Londonderry, Ulster, Ireland; died between 1806 and 1808 in Anderson Co, Tennessee. Notes: Before it became a state in 1796, the territory that is now Tennessee was home to at least two Pollock families: one in the extreme east and the other on the western frontier. Another large, seemingly unrelated group led by Henry Pollock who ws supposedly from Maryland settled by 1820 in Lawrence Co. Determining the ancestors and descendants of these groups is a trying process. For one thing prior to statehood, the jurisdiction of these locales was in dispute with North Carolina and Virginia both claiming portions. The weak federal government mostly stood back and let the individual states deal with the consequences. This confusion compounded the problems of keeping records on the frontier. What few records that can be found are isolated and incomplete. Robert^ married Elizabeth^ Cowan, (Immigrant) on 12 Jun 1770 in Lancaster Co, Pennsylvania. Elizabeth^ was born about 1740 in Ireland; died between 1830 and 1840 in Lincoln Co, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
13. | Elizabeth^ Cowan, (Immigrant) was born about 1740 in Ireland; died between 1830 and 1840 in Lincoln Co, Tennessee. Notes: Around May, 1808, a widow, Elizabeth Pollock, was also a resident of White Co. where she recorded a deed of gift to her daughter Elizabeth 'Betsy' Pollock, single woman. This deed was rescinded later that year, an example, perhaps, of problems he was having with settling the estate. It seems reasonable that this woman was the widow of Robert Pollock, the elder.
