I did a little looking in some of the old Comptonology that I have and found the following.
In will book 8 page 421, Charles Co., Md. list these children of Mathew and Rachel Compton; Zachariah, Mathew, John, Alexander, Edmund, Howard, Margaret, Elizabeth, Susann md. Turner, William, Wilder, and Stephen.
Also in another Vol. it list a Dr. Z. J Compton b. 1801, d1866 as the son of E. Howard Compton and Elizabeth Yates.

THis wek I came across a artice on the Middleton Family published in the Pennsylvania Genealogiocal Magazine Volume 19 In it it states that James Middleton and sarah Smith had a daughter Mary who married a ___
Hawkins. The information you sent on the family said Mary Ann married our Ancestor Zachariah Compton. Could this have been a second marriage for Mary? Every thing else fits very nicely so wondered.

In the list of heirs of William Duke, there were John & William Duke. At one time, I included them as children of William. I now believe they were children of William's son Richard Duke, who had predeceased his father. Richard did have sons John & William, who appeared in assorted records.

I was just wondering if you had any updates on William Duke/my many greats grandfather (born abt 1750 Maryland)(Died abt 1818 Virgina). I have been stuck on who his father/ mother is. Note: Mary Ricketts was named as a granddaughter of Thomas Mobberly in his will. The account of Reizen and John Mobberly of Thomas Mobberly Senr late of Ann Arundel County deced, dated 16 Aug 1770, reports a legacy left by the Deceased to Mary Ricketts the Wife of William Duke.

this is not verifying who her mother was. The site

listed all the Mobberly children of Thomas, one of which was a dau Mary. But this is just a guess.

I have found in my files a note form a Prerogative Court Accounts of Arundel Co, MD dated 16 Aug 1770 for the Thomas Mobberly estate a "legacy left by the deceased to Mary Ricketts, the wife of Willima Duke....
This could be the father of out Sarah Duke Compton.
(note: this would be her grandfather.)

some researchers online show her with a middle name of Thornton, even some have her maiden name as Thornton, which is not correct, and it is doubtful that she had a first marriage to a Thornton.
