    Notes:

In a letter dated July 17, 1854, from the State of Mississippi, Jasper Co, to her father Jackson Butts, Margaret states:
"Dear Father, I embrace this opportunity of writing to you to let you know that we are all well at this time hoping this may find you the same. We got to Jasper on the 19 of June after traveling one month and 14 days. I am satisfied with thountry but should be better satisfied if you were all here. It seems lonesome all tho I have friends.
Our oxen give out. ey begin to fail before we crossed the Mississippi River and father left us and went home and got more oxen and met us at Leaf River and helped us on. The land hunters found no place to move to but father and three of hiothers is gone at this time to Louisiana to look them places and has not cme home yet. They left home on the fourth of July..."
Another letter dated May 11, 1861 is from Wain County, Mississippi. In the letter, she is awaiting a visit from her brothers Andrew and John that following fall. Evidently the start of the War prevented the planned trip. Both brothers ring the war: John in prison at Camp Butler. IL 28 Feb 1863 and is buried in the Confederate Section near Springfield, Illinois in Plot #785; and Andrew died on 4 July 1864 at Banquet, TX, by being thrown from a horse. It is not known if he was in the service or not.
Margaret Ann was the only one of Jane Lovelady Butts' children to have children. One of her granddaughters, wrote the following letter:
    Odessa, Texas, July 8, 1970

    Dear Mrs. George A. Rudisill,
Thank you for the prompt reply. I was so happy & glad to here from (you) and thanks for the wonderful messages you have sent me. As I read through all these it brings memories back too - as I remember so much about my Dear Grandmother. Id her so very much. She did not get to visit us much. Dad & Mother took us children to visit with her and oh it was such a joy.
Grandmother was such a sweet nice person. She had many friends I remember Grandpa sitting on the porch smoking his pipe after he eat dinner or putting a chair on the floor with a pillow to rest. Grandmother was so nice and sweet to Grannyndpa's mother, most people say Aunt Easter. I remember seeing her 3 daughters, Aunt Laura - Aunt Liza and Aunt Mary Ann - Aunt Liza married Lewis Davis in Covington Co, - I believe at Seminary, Miss. Aunt Laura married a Best. Aunt Mary Ann married Harbard Sanderson.
Granny was visiting in Aunt Mary Ann's Home for a few days when Grandmother Margaret Ann died. Granny loved Grandmother very much. She said when they told her of Grandmother's death "the best friend I ever had was gone" - that was true.
Grandmother's funeral was held over for six months - why, I don't remember - they buried her and then in six months the funeral was peached at Hollis Creek Baptist Church & buried in the semanary (cemetery) there. Poor dear Granny was so gd when my mother went to leave. She cryed and sang a fairwell song I believe the title of the song was "They say, Dear Friend, that we must part, it draws like cords around my heart." It was such a beautiful song.
I did not get to see Granny again. She lived with Uncle Robert and Aunt Lula and Grandad then. I don't think Uncle Robert's wife was good to Granny Easter. She took many hard falls, and my mother said she would fall and could not get up ould call for Grandmother altho she was dead. My mother tried to get her but Granddad would not give his consent - he had her so long, as in one of Grandma's letters she said 29 years.
I remember the spring she mentioned it was across the road that is front of the home back of the Garden. It was such clear cool watter we children would help bring watter to the house tho sometime I don't remember Grandpa and the boys putg well in the front yard it had a shelter over it. Once Grandmother sent me to fetch some watter from the well and the Pully came louse (loose) and almost pull me in the well. Grandmother would tie her milk pails to the rope and let the milk in the well and it was nice & cool.
I have written to my Brother and his wife to see about having reprints of Grandmother and Granddad. I know they have enlarged pictures of them but I think they have a 8x10 which I ask if I could get a reprint of them if it could be done.
I written to Mr. Meyer I have not heard from him. What I am interested in is would be my great-grandparents. Grandmother's Dad and Grand Dads family back as far as I can get them it will be appreciated very much.
Forgive writing and spelling. I am 75 years old 4th of last April - not old if my health was better. Please write me again.
    Sincerely yours,
    Mary Viola Lee.

    Subject: RE: Salathiel Butts

Salathiels' brother Andrew, who lived in Texas, recorded the names of his parents in the family Bible. They were Henry James Butts and his wife Susan.

Susan died in Missouri about 1847. I have heard from other
Cousins that Henry also died and is buried in Missouri. I do not know the date.

The Butts family went to Georgia in 1844. I often wonder if it was to visit relatives. There were quite a few members of the UPCHURCH family living in Henry Co., Ga.

Receipt stating "Received of Jackson Butts the sum of five dollars in full of his state and county tax for the year 1849 - F.U. Fordham, Ass & Coll, V.C. Victoria, County."
    _______
After Jane Lovelady died, he married Catherine Poland, probably about 1848-9. Catherine was born in 1829 in Tennessee who also died a year or two after their marriage. He then married Susan Bounds, daughter of Henry C Bounds, in 1852 in Victoria. There are many letters written by children of Mabra Jones to Susan, who they regard as their aunt. Even though by Jane's death, Jackson was no longer related to the Jones and Lovelady families, except through his children, he stayed close; and Susan became an integral part of the family as well. She is the g-grandmother of Leonard B. Meyer of Halletsville (b 1902) who has been so gracious as to provide much local information on the Jones, Lovelady and related families.

Jane is buried somewhere in Victoria County
