    Robert Shannon was born Jan.23,1753. He married Feb.24,1780 to Catherine Davidson who was the daughter of John Davidson, she was born Dec.02,1762 and died May 26,1850. Robert and his family moved to Lincoln Co. North Carolina and to Scott Co. Kentucky in 1795 and to Fayette Co. Ky. about 1800, then to Jassamine Co. Ky. and on to Henry Co. Ky. in 1812. Catherine applied for a Widows Pension Jan.08,1840, claiming that Robert served from the commencement of the War until about the close, as a PVT and LIEUT. and was in the Battles of Kings MT., Cowpens and Eutaw Springs. Robert served under CAPT. Henry and COL. Dickson. The Oath of Allegiance was taken Aug.29,1762 and he was discharged Oct.20,1781.

    unk who he is. Doubtful that he is Robert's brother as records show Robert did have a brother William (1745-1782) being killed at Battle of Blue Licks.



    This William is also there in 1810, seemingly the only Shannon in Henry Co. He was living between Israel Jones and Thomas Jones, brothers, sons of Stephen Jones who also named a son Mabra M. Robert's daughter Lilly husband was also named Mabra M. Jones.

    William Shannon was born in 1730 in County Cork, Ireland. He died on 5 Jul 1784 in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania.

    William Shannon served as a Corporal in the Revolutionary War from Aug.28,1780 to May 01,1781, under Capt. William Huston's Co., 4th Battalion,Cumberland County,Pennsylvania Militia. The ledger of Samuel Findlay, shows William as constable, Mar.11,1775. He is also listed as having served as an overseer of the Poor of Peters Township, Cumberland County, Pa. in 1765.

    William is listed on the Tax List in 1751 in what is now known as Montgomery Township, Franklin County, Pa. William and his wife, Mary had a tract of land called "Shannons Industry", located 1 mile south of Mercersberg, Pa. This land at present is owned by the Mercersberg Academy. William Shannon was born about 1720 in Cork Ireland and died July 05,1784.

    His Will was written on Oct.13,1783 and filed Jun.15,1785 in Franklin County, Pa. William and his family were of the Presbyterian Faith and were members of the "Upper West Conococheague Church".

    Will:
    Wm. Shannon died July 5th, 1784, and his will was one of the earliest recorded after the erection of Franklin County. To his wife he willed the benefit of one-half the dwelling house, one-half of the water and concerns to the said water. What clear land lies north of his dwelling house, with liberty to clear one acre more yearly, the benefit of the meadow next to the wagon road, and the meadow next to Robert Smith's line.[unclear] sons John, James, Wm., Robert, Hugh, Joseph, Nathaniel, David and Samuel and a daughter Jean. To Nathaniel he willed the . . . title to a warrant for 400 acres land in Cane Took [Kentucky] Settlement. To David "82 acres of my patent land adjoining his brother Joseph's share." To Samuel the east and of the patent land and certain warranted land adjoining. The executors were wife Mary and trusty Girvin. John McClelan and David Huston with James Maxwell Esq. and Wm. Scott as guardians over his minor children. The witnesses were James Maxwell, Wm. Smith and Robert Smith.
