Who is Rusty? Not grandfather as grandfather Wiley and great grandfather Henry bothdied in Civil War.
He said mom born GA and only Dugger mom who was born in GA was Elizabeth Caroline Bell, b 1844 and married Enoch Dugger who was born in 1843. But Enoch was in Missouri in 1900 and died in Kansas in 1920; but guess he could have come back to TN 1910. Really not likely. Also, Rusty says born 1841. I have found no Dugger born in 1841.
Enoch was a brother to the boy's father Wiley. Wiley's other likely brother to be surrogate grandfather would Harding, but he was in Oregon in 1910.

John married Violet Dugger in 1882 in Tennessee. Violet (daughter of Wiley L. Dugger and Theresa S. (Terressa) Moyers) was born in Sep 1861 in Pikeville, Bledsoe Co, Tennessee; died on 12 Apr 1915 in of, Marion Co, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Every now and then, while tracing these early pioneers, there comes one who seems to come alive more than others. Such has been the case for Therressa Moyers. She was 19, living with her father's family. The Dugger family lived very close by. They had son Wiley, age 22. Census takers had been by in June, and by

First Infantry. -- Col., Robert K. Byrd; Lieut.-Cols., James
G. Spears, Milton L. Phillips, John Ellis; Majs., James T.
Shelley, Benjamin F. Taylor.

This regiment was organized by Col. Byrd, at Camp Dick
Robinson, Ky., in Aug., 1861. It was first under fire in the
engagement at Wild Cat, and was afterward present at the
battle of Mill Springs.

It also assisted in the capture of Cumberland Gap, where it
remained until the evacuation of that post by Gen. Morgan. It
then retreated with the remainder of the command to Ohio, and
thence went on an expedition up the Kanawha valley.

Returning, it went by way of Louisville to Nashville and
arrived in time to participate in the battle at Stone's River,
after which it returned to Lexington, Ky. It then entered
East Tennessee under Gen. Burnside and was present at the
siege of Knoxville.

During the winter of 1863 it was stationed at Kingston, and in
the spring entered upon the Atlanta campaign participating in
all of the engagements until just previous to the surrender of
the city, when the greater portion of the regiment was
discharged on account of the expiration of term of service.

The veterans and recruits were consolidated into a battalion
of two companies and retained in service until Aug. 8, 1865,
when they were mustered out in accordance with orders from the
war department.

While at Cumberland Gap a detachment of the 1st and 2nd Tenn.
regiments, consisting of 69 men, led by Capt. Meyers and
Lieut. Rogers, captured an important outpost of the
Confederates without the loss of a man. For this exploit a
complimentary notice was read on dress parade by order of Gen.
Morgan.

Notes:

Every now and then a soul from the past seems to just jump off the census pages and become a living, breathing person; such is the case of Terressa Moyers. She was a sister to my grandfather, 18 years his junior.
In June of 1860, she was 19 years old, still living at home with her parents and what few siblings were still home. A nearby neighbor was the Dugger family, and in particular a son Wylie, who was 22. It's possible they were courting at that time, and enjoying youth and budding romance. Sometime probably soon after that census was taken, they married and started their own home. It is said that her mother died at Terressa's home in 1860; so she was clearly a newlywed when she lost her mother. By January of '61, she conceived; but only a month before the blessed time for her delivery, her husband enlisted for the war along with his father and his brother Harding; leaving Theresa with family and friends to bring their baby into a war torn world. She named her baby Violet, perhaps for the fresh beauty of the flower, maybe even her favorite.
Sadly, by the end of 1862, Wiley came down with disease and died on Christmas Day. His father Henry was not long behind him, dying also of disease the following May of 1863.
Theresa never remarried. By the 1870 census, she is living with an elderly couple in their 70s, named Worthington, with Violet.

Then by 1880, it's just she and her daughter. Two years later Violet marries and starts her own family. It's easy to assume that Theresa lived with them and enjoyed her grandchildren as they were being born. By the time the 1900 census is taken, there are four, ranging from 2 to 12.
The following decade was tragically the end. John Farmer died in 1901, and Violet died in 1915. It's unknown when Theresa died, but it must have been in decade, as well, as by the 1910 census, three of the younger kids, in their tween years, were staying with "Rusty" Dugger who identified himself as their grandfather, born 1831. It's not determined exactly who he was, but probably a great uncle.

Does anyone know who Mathias Moyer is?
I found several land transactions involving him in "Land Deeds of Jefferson County, Tennessee 1792-1814." I'm researching the line including Christopher Moyers & Sarah McGowan who were married there 1 Feb 1822. Neither their children nor Chtopher's siblings show a Mathias. Am I missing something? Also, what do the double dates signify?

The name Gass (John) showed up witnessing the will of Alexander Breckenridge in 1813. But that was in Bourbon Co, KY. His g-granddaughter m Harold Charles Moyer, the grandson of Christopher Moyers & Sarah McGowen.
There was a Catherine McGuire who m Andrew Blackburn whose sister Mary married James Moyers, father of Christopher Moyers.
With these common names, it seems that Mathias belongs to the same family of Moyers, but how???
