    Notes:

    It looks like he was a colonel in the Virginia Militia in 1780. He received this title from Governor Thomas Jefferson.


    Hugh, moved to Roanoke Co. from Lancaster, Pa. in 1749 served as a private under Capt. John Quarles of Bedford Co. Va. Hugh was mentioned in his fathers will as his well beloved son, Hugh was to have Home place plantation on South Fork of Roanoke joining Mr. Mattison, Hugh was on the staff of General Green during the revolution . Hugh was appointed constable of Roanoke May 20, 1767.

    In the name of God, Amen. I, Hugh Crockett, of Montgomery County and State of Virginia, being of sound mind and disposing memory so constitute and ordain this my last Will and Testament and calling to mind that it is appointed for all men once to die would dispose of myself in the following manner and form, ro wit:

    First and principally I recommend my soul into the hand of almighty Gos, that gave it, my body to the earth to be berried in a decent Christian berriel at the discretion of my Executors here in after mentioned and as touching such worldly estate where it has pleased God to bless me with, I give devise and dispose of in the following manner and form viz. :

    All my just debts of which there are few, be punctually and speedily paid.

    ITEM 1st., It is my last will that my beloved wife, Rebecca Crockett have the third part of the plantation where I now live on, and the third of my personal estate for the term of her natural life and to dispose of the personal estate as she may think proper among my several children.

    ITEM 2nd., It is my will that the whole of my plantation where I now live on be equally divided my sons Walter and Hugh and also to have one horse each, and one feather bed and furniture each.

    ITEM 3rd., It is my will that the plantation now in by the name of Stepbelton and Smith belong to my son Robert Crockett, and one horse and one feather bed and furniture.

    ITEM 4th., It is my will that my waggon and working tools be equallt divided between Walter, Robert, and Hugh.

    ITEM 5th., It is my will that all the residue of my personal estate be equally divided between my three daughters, Lydia, Polly, and Rebecca.

    ITEM 6th., It is my will that my three children now married viz.: Samuel, Agnes, and Jain, have no more of my estate than they now have in posession.

    ITEM 7th., I do hereby appoint James Craig, Walter Crockett, and Jacob Kent my lawful Executors to this my last Will and Testament and do constitute and ordain, this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 4th, day of July, A.D. 1809

    This last will and testament of Hugh Crockett, Dec'd, was exhibited into open court and proven by the oath of Hamilton Wade, James Barnett, two of the witness thereto subscribed, and ordered to be recorded. On the motion of Walter Crockett one of the Executors therein named, who made oath thereto according to law, and with security entered into and acknowledged bond conditioned as the law directs certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form. James Craig one of the Executors therein named, having personally appeared in Court and refused to take upon himself the burden and execution of said will.
