note: I believe that this John who was married to Mary Ann and Martha was the John who was son of Enoch and Elizabeth Margaret Williams. In 1850 he is living next door to Enoch, his brother.

    Research Notes:
I think the John (I 05040) who married Mary Ann and Martha is the child of Enoch and Elizabeth Margaret Williams rather than is found to be the first born of Abraham and Elizabeth Chaney. The John who was 1st born of Abraham and Elizabeth Chaney I believe was married to Elizabeth Horton. 1850 census shows John and Mary Ann living next door to Enoch, Jr.
However the other John (I 05003) who married Elizabeth Margaret Williams is living within three residences of Alexander, another son of Enoch Sr.

update 4/28/2015: DNA kinship to Maria Allen Shaw, 3rd-5th cousin, to me and Glen indicates John is indeed son of Abraham and Elizabeth Chaney as that calculates to 5th cousin. If he were son of Enoch Jr, kinship is quite a bit more distant. So, assuming concluding until further study that John who married Elizabeth Horton is son of Enoch Sr.

April 30, 1838 Will filed in Coshocton Co. Ohio

    Will:
In Coshcoton County, Ohio a will for Martha Randles, dated Nov 1837 and probated Apr 1838, named her sons Enoch and John Randles as executors. Martha left one dollar to each of "my children", Abraham, Enoch, Isaac, Hannah (Randles) Foster, Axa (Randles) Foster, and Rachel (Randles) Williams. The rest of her estate went to "my younger children" John Randles, Polly (Mary) Randles and Sally (Sarah) Randles. Apparently this Martha is the mother of the four brothers mentioned in the 1831 history (i.e. Abraham,Enoch, Isaac, and John)

  3. 10.  Nathan* Chaney (Cheney), (not son of Richard; prob related) was born in 1760 in Anne Arundel Co, Maryland (?) (son of Richard Chaney (or Cheney) and Mary Gassaway, son of (Mr.)* Chaney (or Cheney), (immigrant) and (Mrs.)* Chaney (or Cheney), (immigrant)); died on 22 Nov 1837 in Harrison Co, Ohio; was buried in Dickerson Cem, Cadiz Twp, Harrison Co, Ohio.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Immigration: Abt 1775, Pennsylvania (possibly)
    • Other-Begin: 2 Mar 1779, Washington Co, Pennsylvania (formerly Baltimore Co, Maryland)

    Notes:

He married Sarah (Mansfield) on November 29, 1787 in Baltimore County, Maryland. A part of Maryland is now Washington County, Pa. The couple came to Harrison County in 1805.
According to the Harrison Co. History, written in the 1880's, Nathan had told that his parents came to America at the beginning of the French and Indian War. (1756-1763)

Note: if this is true, then he is not the son of Richard and Mary Gassaway as many people have him since Richard was not an immigrant, nor was his parents, Charles Cheney Jr & Mary Powell. Internet records are not consistent. Until something comes up more authenticated, I tend to think Nathan might be a dead-end. His marriage record shows him born about 1760; meaning he was possibly also an immigrant.

The Chaneys are rumored to have been Native American and if they were in Jackson Township in 1805, this would be so, as that's the only population there! Interesting fact: Near that time Coshocton was known as the Delaware Indian Capitol of United States.
The Chaney family often traveled back and forth between Harrison County and Coshocton County, as did the Randles & Fivecoat families.
On June 9, 2009, Larry Dean, his wife Sheila and myself proceeded to find the tombstone of Mary. Although, I had found the stone and subsequently the obituary many years previous, I could not find it again. With great joy, Larry spotted it. Mary is his gr gr gr grandmother. We both took a picture of the tombstone. It is very weathered and we could not make out the day she was born!
The will of Issac Randles, Mary's husband, was probated April 4, 1842 in Coshocton County, Ohio.
    The named children are:
    Nathan
    Thomas
    Issac
    Martha
    Hannah
    Mary Elizabeth
    Eliza
