    He was a charter member. In the early 1840s, John switched to the Stone-Canmpbell Restoration Movement of the Christian Churches.

    (Church of Christ). Some people called them Reformed Baptists and some called them ?Campbellite Baptists? in those days. John was .

    the first pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church, founded about 1845. He is listed in the 1850 Jasper Co, MS census. He brought his family .

    to Lavaca County, Texas about 1852, where several of his children were married. By 1860, he was in Hill County, Texas. He then bought .

    land nearby in Burleson County, in 1867. He deeded some of this land to his children in 1869. He is buried beside his wife, Mary Sophoronia Cooley Bounds, in the Mesquite .

    Letter from Mary Jones to Susan Bounds, dated 23 Apr 1871, she states to Susan, "Frances wrote to me not long since. She said for me to tell you your Father was dead. Her Ma Martha Bounds Bosworth) had got a letter from some one there." "There" was Lee County, and Susan was in Lavaca, about 75 miles due south of Lee County.
    Martha was John's daughter and Susan's sister. He had died in 1867 - sad, long time to not know their father had died.

    She is from this line of Crockers of Isle of Wright. Some researchers say she is daughter of Anthony and some say Arthur. The various trees on line of have very few birth dates and those can vary widely.
    Nevertheless, this line of Crockers does have a Middleton connection; her daughter married a Porter,and those lines merged into my ancestors cousin, Samuel Porter Middleton. So, there is continuity if not exactly.

    (note: Berry Cooley's relation to the Spurlocks has not been determined; but these Spurlocks are the children of William (1800 GA) and Lavina Winborne Spurlock (1800 SC), who are living in Residence 119 with Calno P and Isabella Moonsson. That household is listed directly before Rhoda Parker.
    In Residence 118 is Bowling L. Spurlock, age 3 1847, another child of William and Lavina. He is living with George & Mary Massengale (Massingill) and children.
    By 1860, William and Lavina are in Rockport, Simpson Co, MS, with their children, Ann, Levina, and Adeline, age 15. Near is Young B. Massengale, and wife Martha. He is son of George & Mary Massengill who Bowling was living with; and Martha is daughter of William and Lavina Spurlock.
