Notes:

There is a book written about Winnie. The story goes that she was stolen by Gypsies as a child. When 16 years of age the Gypsy camp was in the small town of Gainesboro Tennessee. The town thought that this very blond girl did not belong to the Gypsy family and took the girl. My ancestor Little Berry Young married her. She was known as a very good midwife and a great herbalist. She ruled with an iron fist and everyone obeyed. Her daughters-in-law were very scared of her. I would loved to have known her!

(not this person - brother of william who was captured was named John.

James Young lived with his family in western Virginia. This family was massacred while living on the Jackson River. The only survivors were 2 boys, John and William. They were raised by the Native Americans on or near the Cumberland River. They were released by the treaty of Col Bouquet. However, They were happy where they were and did not want to leave this home with the Native Americans. After they were traded, one by one they returned to the Cumberland River area.We do not know much about a wife. I was told long ago that James was married to an Indian lady named Mary. When he died in 1845, he left a widow and nine children.

If dates are correct, then it is in question that his parents are John and Comfort considering a daughter born in same year.
