Christian (Chris), born in Pennsylvania, was murdered in a gunfight between himself, his brother Fritz, brother-in-law Augustin J. Reitzer, and John Bryant and John's son Albert. The fight began when Albert Bryant quarreled with Chris over some hogs, and fired several shots at Chris. Chris, Fritz and August then went to the Bryant property to arrest Albert when the gunfight ensued. Both Christian and August were shot dead by John Bryant as Albert Bryant lay wounded inside the house. Albert recovered from his wounds, dying in 1925. John Bryant died in 1919.

Christian had married Louisa Maass 27 Jan 1877 in Bandera,? Texas. They had at least five children: Charles, Rosa, Emaline, Lillie and Christina, who was born a month after her father's death. In 1895, Louisa married James N. Evans.
