    Merlin Young Born 17 Nov 1767 in Virginia Died 15 Sep 1841 in Medon, Madison County, Tennessee. Buried in VANTRESE YOUNG CEMETERY, Medon, Madison County, Tennessee.
    In Merlins will, recorded in Madison County, TN pg 468 he names Milton Young as his son and William Tandy Young as his grandson. In the Young Family Cemetery near Medon, Madison, TN. a small cemetery enclosed by an iron fence and graves well marked can be found. Here the graves of Merlin Young, wife Tabitha Witcher, Son: Sherriff Benj Franklin Young (father of Louisa Young and Frank Young), Benjamin's wife Nancy Comer Young, their son Mastin Comer Young and his wife Pheribe Ann Stephens Young. Directions to cemetery: South of Medon approx 1 mile to Swink Road, turn left. Go 1/2 mile down Swink Road to sharp right turn. At this turn there is small dirt road that turns left. Go less than 1/4 mile down dirt road bearing right at any fork. Cemetery is in woods on right side of field clearing with fence around it. On Jan 12, 2002 I visited the gravesite and found headstones for Merlin which had been broken off but leaning up against fence and a foot stone in place, Tabithas head stone was missing. The base was in place and a footstone was found with letter T Y on it. Benjamin F. Young Sr. and wife Nancy Youngs stone was present and in good shape except for an ornament that had been on top had broken off and was laying on ground. Terry D, M.D. and Peribe Young stones were all in place. Merlin was the son of William Young of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, who was a Sgt. in the Virginia Militia under Col. Logan; his wife Tabitha was the daughter of William Witcher of England, who served in the Virginia Militia, and became Brevet Colonel.

News, 1974, concerning the family of William's son, Wiley: "The Young paternal ancestors came from the highlands of Scotland and settled in Pittsylvania Co., VA before the Revolutionary War. Wiley whose father was also a tobacco planter, brought his family with him to Tennessee and bought a large acreage in Anderson county".
