    Will of John Haneline (Johannes Henlein) of Rowan County, North Carolina. This is a transcription of a copy from the Rowan County, North Carolina Will Book A, page 211 on familysearch.org. It is a much better copy than that obtained from the North Carolina archives. However, on the copy from the archives you have the signature "Johannes Henlein" which you do not have on the will book copy on familysearch.


    In the name of God Amen I John Haneline of Rowan County in the Province of North Carolina Planter Being thro the Abundant Mercy and Goodness of God tho weak in body yet of a Sound and Perfect understanding Memory do Constitute and appoint this last Will and Testament and Desire it may be Received by all as such.

    First I most humbly bequeath my Soul to God my Maker beseeching his most gracious acceptance of it thro the Meritt and Mediation of my Redeemer Jesus Christ and as to my worldly state I will and Positively order that all my debts be paid.

    First I give to my deare and loving wife Catherine Haneline my iron gray mare and likewise a new side saddle to be got for her out of my Estate.

    Likewise I will and ordain that the Plantation whereon I now live to be Entered as soon as my Lords [or Lands] office is opened and Grants to be got and to be Deeded and the Costs Amounting thereby to be paid and levied out of my Estate and the money left in the Executors hands for that purpose. I likewise leave unto my Dear and Loving wife the house wherein I now dwell and her third part of the Plantation for her to raise the children while she remains a widow. Next I give unto my son Jacob Hainline eighty acres of land out of the said grant to be taken out of that side he now lives on and the remaining part of the land to be equally divided between my sons Henry, John, George, Christopher and Abram Hainline to them and to Jacob and their heirs and assigns forever.

    And as to my debts due to me by my debtors I will that my
    executors Collect it. And as to the rest of my worldly effects I will and positively order that they be sold and the money amounting thereby together with my ____ debts and ____ by me to be equally divided, excepting my wife's third, among my children Viz my son Jacob, Henry, John, George, Christopher, Abraham, Eve, Catherine, Elizabeth, Christiane Henline.

    I likewise constitute and ordain Joseph Bryan and Jacob Booe my Executors of this my last will and testament and Trustees for my wife and children.

    In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighteenth day of May the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy five.
